I got into them in 1993 with Songs Of Faith And Devotion... plunged into the depths of the back catalogue and bought all albums and singles that came out for the remainder of the decade. By Exciter my interest started to tail off, and from Playing The Angel onwards, I only buy their albums once they hit the bargain bin.

I am sorry to tell you that you should not have given up on such a phenomenal band like Depeche Mode. This latest album is beyond breathtaking and so were the last two. Sure Exciter is a weak cd, even I know that but I did not give up on them just based onthat album. If you did then you were never a real fan. Each band has a weak abum or two or more. PSB's weak album has to be Introspective, the first Disco album and even Disco 4 was terrible. A lot of people say they hate Elysium, so do you suggest people to give up on PSB? Erasure's weak album was Other People's SOngs and Loveboat so far. So like I said, every band and artist has their share of weak albums but then they come back next time with mind blowing albums!
Oh, I've still been getting each album ever since... I just find that I listen to them only once and (with the exception of the song Precious) couldn't be bothered to play them twice... hence why I'm only prepared to buy DM out of the bargain bin nowadays. Likewise, once Delta Machine hits the bargain bin, I'll buy it too. They just don't have enough fresh ideas to make their post-millennial output essential listening.

To say you would buy the cds in clearance is criminal! THat is insane, I forgot to mention that PSB's Bilingual is another weak album and Disco 2, the only of the Disco cds that was ok was Disco 3. And Release was subpar too.
Oh well at least you buy them still, even if at bargain price.

I never said they had anything to do with them. I was giving examples of other bands that have weak albums, retro only mentioned about DM having weak albums. That is it, its all a matter of opinion, you may like Disco, I don't. I like Elysium, some people hate it. Just like alot of people like to bring up Erasure on this forum a lot. I can mention any band, Duran Duran if I want, the object of this conversation is just that Depeche Mode are not the only band with weak albums on their discography. I mentioned PSB among other bands just as examples.
Amazing album. Best in quite awhile...clearly better than SOTU or Exciter. Very happy that in a years time, we get roughly 2 new PSB albums (plus a ton of b-sides), new DM and new OMD. What a great music year!
After four weeks Delta Machine is now #31 in the UK charts, down two places last week. This is surprising, since DM's last two albums stuck around for only four weeks in the top 75.
