Beauty and the Geek
In the past, I guess I always fast-forwarded (thank you, DVR) through the opening credits, but I finally heard the lyrics of the show's theme song (the Pet Shop Boys' "Opportunity"): "I've got the brains; you've got the looks. Let's make lots of money." That Ashton Kutcher is just so creative. Anyway, the beauties finally learned the age-old lesson: Don't judge a book by its cover. It all kicked off when the girls were extremely nervous about having to ask one of the guys in the house (other than her partner) out on a date. Brittany chose Ankur, although she said she wasn't sure what they would talk about because she "likes Diet Coke and he likes fruity stuff." But to everyone's surprise, including mine, it was smooth sailing for all the dates, with the exception of Sarah getting grossed out when Joe kept blowing his nose into the "really nice silk napkin." Well, now that I think about it, Cher and Wes' date was doomed during the small talk — then they left dinner to make out. The women's next challenge, and probably the hardest one yet seeing how shallow they sometimes are, was going to a bar with absolutely no make up and ugly clothing to see how many guys would buy them a drink. Ouch. So here's the part where the beauties realized how hard it must be for the geeks to build up confidence when they couldn't rely on their looks. Yes, it truly was a special lesson to learn. Unfortunately for Cher, Wes and Sarah were eliminated. At least Cher and Josh are still in the running, along with Ankur and Jennipher, and Brittany and Joe, for the final prize. And then there were three! — Maya Schechter
