Pet Shop Boys released a special message for their U.S. fans on their web site last week. "We would like to inform American Petheads that the USA release of "Fundamental" is under advanced discussion at the moment," writes the duo. "We're hoping that it will be released in the USA on the same date as the rest of the world. It is planned that Pet Shop Boys' world tour will begin in North America (Canada/USA/Mexico) in October."

The reports I have received from London for weeks now have finally been confirmed. EMI has been extremely tight-lipped about the U.S. release date of PSB's much-anticipated new album. Reasons for a push-back may include the global demand for the band, an unfinished US tour schedule or possibly the music itself.

According to an EMI rep, the duo went back into the studio to continue working on the record even though full-length advances of "Fundamental" were already distributed earlier this year. The buzz for the album has been strong, but it might have been that some tweaking was needed to satisfy the market. Additional studio time might also have been necessary to record B-sides or U.S. specific bonus tracks.

In any event, I'm hoping EMI is not making the same mistake that Mute made with Goldfrapp's "Supernature" that was released months after the European release. It sucked the life right of the momentum that the band had going, and I even dare to argue that it has spoiled a big, fat debut for Goldfrapp in the U.S..

I think arjan is the bloke who wrote that they were working with David Morales and Miss Kittin on the album, his reasoning being that on the official site that they had met both of them whilst in Italy. I'd take this with a VERY big pinch of salt. What are these 'reports' he has been receiving, didn't realise he was that important

Saner Park
I'm with Smart
Psychological ('yes, it IS all in your head' mix)

Arnold Schwartznegger in Hell

EMI aren't going to give a damn what PSB does in the US- PSB isn't on the EMI label in the US, and haven't been for over 10 years.

Second, why would PSB record new material for a US release, when for the last two albums, the US bonus disc has been a collection of single b-sides and remixes. Why spend so much time on a US release?

And an unfinished tour schedule wouldn't keep them from releasing an album. Nightlife's tour was started before the album came out......

I'm sorry but that makes little to no sense. I don't see them changing the album for America. I don't think they have expectations of it selling gangbusters but with a little promotion, it could debut high. Also, what would EMI have to do with it? I think the album will be released on Sanctuary again. EMI hasn't released something from PSB since what..."Discography"or "Very".

Is it true that Happiness Is An Option was made for the US market?

I believe "alternative" was the last release on emi/capitol in the US....maybe it was a 10 year contract.

having a special release in the US is a good idea, because many people outside the US will buy it as an import, therefore helping the US record company (i'm sure that this was the reasoning behind the "release" bonus disc).

I'm never concerned about this,discussions about a US release always seem to happen around the time of a new release, I always get it somehow.it always seems to be there the day of release with import stamped on it.well at least in NY where I live

I see that amazon.com has just added a couple of fundamental cd's ($15.99 and $18.49).....they are listed as imports (country unknown)
