Pet Shop Boys Anonymous
"I don`t find this lonely part cool. If i`m with friends i feel always ashamed talking about PSB. No one understands me and i can`t talk about this topic. No one respects me for being a PSB fan. I mean PSB are playing a really big part in my life but i can`t talk about it. It`s like splitting up with a girlfriend and you want to talk with someone because you are feeling sad but you can`t talk about it."
This moved me to tears and inspired this thread. Ashamed of your desire for Chris's haughty keyboard playing? Secretly in love with Neil's knowledge of Russian history? Then this is the thread for you - even those who think New York City Boy is the greatest single ever.
OK, my name is Janet and I love Pet Shop Boys. I even like Release.

Well out here in Alberta there are not that many PSB fans but I always express myself as a true PSB fan even when most of the people around don't think its cool. Heck I think my taste in music is a lot cooler than theirs It does suck sometimes not to have others enjoy such great music with you but my GF will turn when I take her to a concert this year. (It worked for DM) I just hope I can afford the flight to LA like i did for Montage.

Jesus, you'd think we were talking about child porn or something! Who cares if nobody else likes them? That's why people post in forums like this. I couldn't give a f**k what anybody else thinks about anything, to be honest. It's called individuality.b@man wrote:At least someone understands me instead of making a thread to laugh about a person.
Whilst I think you may have something of a point there, and perhaps this isn't the most sincere of threads, I do think you have a good original point.b@man wrote:At least someone understands me instead of making a thread to laugh about a person.
Not since about 1988 has it been cool to say you like PSB. Ever since it is the source of much amusement for everyone you tell, and you do tend to keep it secret. That to me is both an odd thing to happen, and wrong.

I agree. PSB are the most consistantly intelligent and sophisticated of pop acts and yet they're ridiculed by most people as a cheesy, gay pop act if you mention them. Basically, it's homophobia. Part of me does feel very clever for knowing better.
My advice to the original chappy who inspired this thread is:
You should feel proud to know better. You, at least, know the truth. I'd probably also advise you to stop being such a sap, but I might get in trouble.

I love them to bits and never felt 'uncool' or even
'ashamed'. Why would I? I always stand behind my
principles, likes and behind what I am doing. I don't
care if people might think I was a little 'crazy' collec-
ting all their releaes in different formats/several co-
lours (like 9 x 'Release' and s. th. like that ...
).
I just don't care. I needn't to talk about them, but
it is nice to have this place, certainly. The opposite
is the case here: I am proud of them and liking 'em.
If I'd feel ashamed of liking PSB, I'd have to get s.th.
lasered off my body ... and this, for sure, won't ever
going to happen.

I used to get really embarrassed about liking them, but now I know my brass band better and since I've been at college I don't feel ashamed and when they have new stuff coming out I always play it in the common room!

I don`t wander with my head down to earth the whole day. I will be a fan forever. That my friends don`t like them doesn`t stop me from hearing them. But sometimes it make feel a bit sad. That`s all.Janet Street-Porter wrote:Jesus, you'd think we were talking about child porn or something! Who cares if nobody else likes them? That's why people post in forums like this.
