Numb first song in three-four time?

#1 Post by diana »

Or has PSB done more songs in three-four time?

Dreaming of the Queen
visiting for tea
You and her and I
and Lady Di

Alcibiades

"Can you forgive her?" of course!

Although that's probably 6/8 rather than 3/4.

How does one 'hear' the difference between 6/8 and 12/8? :|

Really? I hear definitely óne two three, óne two three, óne two three. That makes Numb so delicate.

It goes:

Ask (one - two - three)
Your (four - five - six)
Self (seven - eight - nine)
Now (ten - eleven - twelve)

therefore 12/8!

Imagine a sped-up version of 'House of the Rising Sun'.

Ok, I believe you.

Therefore it is not like Numb. Is it the only song in one two three?

Dreaming of the Queen
visiting for tea
You and her and I
and Lady Di

So you agree that this Sherlock Holmes has found out that Numb is the only three-four time song in PSB-history? 8)

That's interesting because I've been thinking about this before (maybe because I'm a musician who plays sheet music). Pet Shop Boys has NEVER written a song in 3/4 waltz tempo! I believe that "Love is a catastrophe" was the first one, although it might be written as 6/8 you can count 1-2-3 on it. The same goes for "Numb", and ironically that's a song they didn't write themselves.

To me, "Can you forgive her" has never been anything else than a regular 4/4 pop soung - although it's possible to count it as Alcibiades suggests, but that's to complicate it.

Maybe we will hear more waltz numbers from the Boys in the future? :)
