ANGRY ...

#1 Post by dibdav »

Just another post on Integral.
A couple of reviews have picked up on it. It's really for the first time in 20 years that Neil
sounds ANGRY - this is indeed a new dimension for the Pet Shop Boys - NOT CAMP, BUT ANGRY.

ANGRY IS COOL, ANGRY SELLS, ANGRY IS TO ASPIRE TOO.

CAMP, er is not.

it just sounds camp to me. sung with the same theatrical haughtiness & defiance as in 'What Keeps Mankind Alive'. the anger is probably read between the lines due to the subject matter.

I think Integral is great!
It just sounds a bit dated, if it was to be a single they would have to do a single mix.

I don't get the problem with it sounding dated..even tho' I personally think it feels quite fresh. I mean, the charts are full of covers of ancient songs or samples of and sounding dated didn't harm Madonna's chart success or any of the karaoke pop tarts from TV programmes for that matter.

I think Neil sounds angry on "A man could get arrested" and "That's my impression". And they belong to their best b-sides ever.
Integral is just as cheesy as Wolfgang Petry. And those of you who don't know him should be glad.

Doesn't Neil sound angry towards the end of "That's my impression"? It's one of the few songs where he almost shouts.

The first time I heard Integral I was rather scared by the vocal style.

It sounds like an old Fascist Hymn (Mussolini's stuff....). Neil has managed to frighten me.... :(

I wish he sounded angry. It might pull the track together.

I love that bit. He's never sung out like that since! Some of the vocals are really experimental on the first album. :) I guess it's cause he hadn't found his style exactly.

Neil's best angry vocal is 'The sound of the atom splitting.' Especially the part where he says, 'Once you all finish kissing.' Brilliant!

Forget the three chord cool!

It's all complex chords, and the truth from now on, isn't it?

Anger has never sounded more resounding than played with a EbMAJ7 suspended 9th, diminished 5th but with an added 4th!
