Oversight and revision in the PSB controversy poll

Because I had overlooked two very important options

in my poll this week on the single most controversial thing the Pet Shop Boys have ever done -- namely (1) the photos of a penis on the 12-inch vinyl promos for the "Before" single and (2) the view that they really haven't done anything truly controversial -- I've done something that I very rarely do on account of the technical and statistical risks involved: I've added them "late" to the list.

Since 5 people have already indicated that they would have chosen the "Before penis covers" and 3 said that the Boys haven't done anything controversial, I gave those two new options that many votes respectively right upfront.

If you have already voted for something else but now would like to change your vote to one of these two new options, please let me know by emailing me at psbfan@earthlink.net.

I sincerely apologize for this oversight and late revision. I hope this doesn't completely invalidate this poll in your eyes. Just speaking for myself, however, I still think the results are turning out to be rather interesting.

yeah neil telling everyone he is fabulous probably was the most controversial thing they have done.

BTW I wasnt aware the penis cover thing was ever released. in the further listening booklet neil implies that they decided not to do it as they are "really kinda prudish".

so some actually made it to press and got released?that must have been quite a surprise sitting in the store CD rack.little girls in the store sifting thru CD'S for some boy band and instead getting a crash course in male genitalia.

I believe they were promo only 12"ers

, so probably very little chance of that happening (unfortunately)

By my own definition, doing something truly controversial would mean having done something that would raise people's ire/get people upset and provoke a reaction against. Like Lennon saying the Beatles were bigger than Jesus.

By that definition, I had to vote for them not being controversial, because no one has batted an eye (other than a few posters here) about Fugitive, Eminem being gay in a song, peni on album covers, etc. In fact, it has only come off as pathetic, really...

I seem to recall the EMI plant workers almost refused to work with the penis sleeves. Mind you, it was a Sun story, so it could have been a total fiction.

I seem to remember the Pets admitting that this story was deliberately given to the Sun in a vain attempt to stir up a bit of outrage.

It didn't work, however.

I've seen this in Hard To Find Records.

The mixes weren't very good, and it was a really ugly willy
