The only singled charting worse were Yesterday, When I Was Mad, Single-Bilingual and Somewhere. Then again, their last Top 10 hit here was Go West, it's just the albums that still sell good.
They didn't deserve better for not releasing the DVD here.

As far as I know and understood, only cd2 is available in German shops. That explains the poor chart result.

EMI/PSB should really STOP releasing the same UK-singles in Germany! Germany is the #2 target country for PSB, so the Germans deserve extra attention, with unique cd-single tracklistings. America gets such cd-singles too, so why not Germany?

If only EMI/Parlophone were more clever, they could make more profit with PSB-singles and sell more to general music fans as well.

It's simple: Just put more stuff on German cd-singles. There's no chart rule that prevents you from doing so. Make the cd-single more attractive to buy.

German cd1, the EP:
1. Minimal (radio edit)
2. Blue On Blue
3. No Time For Tears (7-inch)
4. In Private (7-inch)

German cd2, the remixes:
1. Minimal (radio edit)
2. Minimal (Tocadisco remix)
3. Minimal (M-Factor remix)

Minimal would have entered remarkably higher and even many UK people would import cd1, since it contains Blue On Blue and NTFT on cd.

Considering that only one UK-format was available (which means no b-sides), such a bad position is no surprise.

I wouldn't want special German releases. This only complicates and increases the price of collecting. But I would definitely want the same releases here as in the UK.

I'm sorry, you've given me the opportunity to whine America hasn't had a PSB single since New York City Boy (OK, Break 4 Love but that was The Collaboration) . But you are correct, when we used to get them they had unique tracklistings.

It's true that they should release Maxi-CDs in Europe instead of the same lame single tracklistings that see the light in the UK because of the chart laws of that country. That would increase the interest and, maybe, the sales.

However, at least 'Minimal' has been released in Germany.

Here in Spain, it's only available as an UK import, and there's no trace of the DVD single. We even had an official release of 'London', so 'Minimal' looks like a ghost single.

The single is basically pointless anyomore the rules were made back when singles were a very popular format, not anymore, and it makes a lot of sense, it got ruined. There is no excuse for there to be more than one cd format, unless like in the olde days, the song is sooo popular, dj's make new mixes in say 6 weeks (not likely anymore).... one cd that fans will actually purchase.
Either they revise the cart rules or the single as it is known and loved will be gone for good in the near future. I won't pay for lossy mp3's and most music fans basically feel the same way and playing hide and seek for the songs spread across formats and promos is just crass and stupid.

THAT is my point. I hate having to buy all these promos and imports. Let's have one release for all over the world. No more exclusive tracks.

Actually, I always dreamt of EMI being as intelligent as Mute Records. They rerelease old Depeche Mode and Erasure singles some years later in box sets with all the mixes/b sides on ONE CD. So you end up with 12 tracks on one CD of "In your Room".
"Further Listening" is totally inconsequent.

Yeah, Mute have the right idea. Still the DM cd's were released in '92 originally back when it was still a novelty to even get the out of print releases. With things being more available, the fleecing by multiple formats and even difficult formats may do less for the charts then they actually help. Some may not even buy anything. Now if they made only one format chartable on any week, with no limits on the contents barring it does not include say more than five different songs, and any number of remixes, then there would be a reason to actually buy the singles, it would even save time, no bother downloading etc.... think actual value for money and something to actually bother putting into the player.

Due the confusion of german releases and the copy protection, i decided to buy them trough www.petshopboys.biz this time. So my shopping behaviour belongs to the UK charts this time, not counting for germany...
