Bright young things//Party song lyrics + comments from OS

#1 Post by ! »

Bright young things
Lucy’s wearing vintage
Boy’s in a rented tux
Safety pins for cufflinks
Please dance with me
The party’s still in full swing
and you’re such a bright young thing

Nancy’s got her monkey
on a silver chain
Pose for Stephen’s camera
then dance with me
Forget what the future brings
Surrounded by bright young things

Sometimes a party’s
a port in a storm
No one is weary
or lost and forlorn

Listen, a nightingale sings
in Berkeley Square the bright young things
are flying on chemical wings
intent on their one-last-flings tonight

It’s time! It’s time!
It’s time! It’s time!

When I get you home
there’ll be sunlight on your bed
Close your eyes and drift off
imagining
the promise of a diamond ring
You the queen, and I your king

Sometimes a party’s
a port in a storm
You won’t feel weary
or lost or forlorn

Listen, a nightingale sings
in Berkeley Square the bright young things
are flying on chemical wings
Share with me one last fling tonight

It’s time! It’s time!

Originally written in 2003 for the film, "Bright Young Things", the song was finally released in 2006 as a bonus track on the "Numb"single.

Party song
We want a party song
with a good time lyric
Tell you what
I'm gonna help you pick it

I hope that you don't mind
but there's some people
wanna bump and grind
Play those ones and twos
and while you spin
I'll help you choose
I wanna good time

We want a party song
with a good time lyric
Tell you what
I'm gonna help you pick it

Remember when we used to all get down
and do the hustle?
Are you gonna get me started up like that so I can muscle
in and party?
Why don't you help me start to muscle in and party?
Come on and start me

I know I'm not the only one
who's come here looking for some fun
I drove along from Nice
in my soft-top Rolls Royce Corniche
I wanna good time

We want a party song
with a good time lyric
Tell you what
I'm gonna help you pick it

That's the way I like it
(We're gonna have a good time)
That's the way I like it
(We're gonna have a good time)

Written and recorded in 2003, this song culminates in a quote from the KC and the Sunshine Band 70s hit, "That's the way I like it".

Are we supposed to think that that "aha aha" in the That's the way... part does actually mean "I"? Or is it once again (as with "I" in I don't know what you want but I can't give it any more) more thought than sung?

I actually wonder why so many PSB tracks are being kept on the shelf such a long time. Ever since 1999 this is happening more often and often. During the Nightlife era, they released some older tracks (Screaming, Je 't Aime, Sail Away) as B-sides.

During the Release-era it happened even more often: Home And Dry was backed with Nightlife on the DVD, I Get Along saw the release of Friendly Fire as a B-side, London was backed with Positive Role Model, originally recorded in 2000.

Miracles had Transparent (originally recorded in 2001/2002), Flamboyant was backed with I Didn't Get Where I Am Today; a leftover (read: best track) from the Release-sessions.

I'm With Stupid had Girls Don't Cry as a B-side, which was also an older track, if I remember correctly. Minimal had Blue On Blue, a track from 2003. And now Numb is backed with 2 tracks from 2003.

It seems PSB are more productive than the amount of space on their cd-singles... - They are running behind, more or less. I can't help thinking that some of the 2003-tracks would have worked great on Disco 3 or so.

Time On My Hands
Positive Role Model
Try It
Party Song
Somebody Else's Business
Blue On Blue
If Looks Could Kill
We're The Pet Shop Boys
Here (PSB extended mix)
Bright Young Things

... what a fantastic electro album this would have been.
