Is there a theme to the Fundamental album ?

I have written recently, that PSB has allways been a singles band.
Well the exception for for me is Fundamental which feels like an album.
There is a theme and the songs flow together and set a mood. (So more
singles from Fundy ... are not necessary).

Hmm, if Fundamental has a theme, what is it ? Resignation to the disintegration of
hope in the post 9/11 world ? A direct critercism of Blair and Bush ? Does it make you
feel mad, sad, bad or glad ?

What do others, who don't normally make political comments think ?
Diverse opinions welcome.

To me the whole Fundamental era looks a bit like the thing they did with Bilingual, they didn't really have a totally accomplished concept to bring on and lost a bit of interest along the way...There was a dark-victorian theme with Neil's hat and stuff like "Resurrectionist" but after Minimal bombed they didn't really stretch if further, did they? Or maybe they reserved it to live performances...

Fundamental is a black beauty musically and lyrically. Songs about death, politics, fear and not getting erections... just can't get any better than that IMO! Also Fugitive and The Resurrectionist... the Fundamental period has been amazing.

It's by far my favourite album of theirs.

This album has to be one of my favourites so I adore the theme of it, with meaningful songs such as Integral.

Fear and uncertainty--in relationships, in politics, in art, epistemologically speaking, and in oneself. Very carnal; some evolutionary psychology suggests that fear underlies all of our emotions. In some ways, thinking about these themes is the only way I can really appreciate "Psychological" as the opening track.

Come to think of it, fear is the underlying theme, I think, of a lot of PSB music, but some other common themes in PSB music in my view (liberation, guilt) aren't so prevalent here. IMHO.
