PERFORMANCE

#1 Post by Actually »

I watched the Performance Dvd again last night as i find it so relaxing & good to unwind to after a long day at work, both musically & visually.
Musically, as always the music is programmed but in Performance the music sounds so crisp & neat, in some places better than their studio work.
Visually, it's nice to see no musicians on stage but then again with the music sounding better than a studio production, do you believe Scott & JJ Belle were playing any live parts at all? It's nice to see Chris on stage with his hand held Keyboard but obviously just miming. However it does look like Chris ACTUALLY plays live keyboard during Jealousy & the grand finale of Always on my mind.
Out of all the PSB Tours, i think Performance is Pet Shop Boys at their best.....but musically, are they Performing?
I'm too weak to be strong

I like to think that they are performing, even though this show was more of a theatrical masterpiece!

You are right it is the boys at their best and I feel honoured that I saw it at Wembley. Performing musically? I've never really cared about this as long as the music was dead loud!

Even though I saw them at Thetford Forest I can't wait for the gig in London on the 27th may - it will be the first time i will have seen them at a big venue and it will be totally sold out. The 1989 tour, performance and nightlife shows were not total sell outs at wembley. When i saw them at heaven and the hacienda it was packed and the atmosphere was amazing.

After all these years I get excited!

Of course JJ belle was playing, you can hear his fantastic wah wah all over West end Girls for example, to think he weas not playing is ridiculous, why would they have employed him to then have blantant new guitar parts all over so many songs, and then have him miming while being hidden????

I tihnk there are a few definitive versions of songs on that tour- What Have I done...+ West end Girls to name 2.

I tihnk the PSB pay far too much attention to the production of their songs to waste time and money on a guitarist who can't be seen and is miming.
There's clearly guitar in the songs, and its obviously coming from JJ belle

Yes, and there is even at least one brief glimpse of them during West End Girls.

Performance tour was a legendary show and one that I will always remember. I do not care if they really played music or not. That is what Scott Davidson and JJ Belle were there for.
