Pet Shop Boys on Radio One 1991

Back around 90/91 when Radio one DJ Simon Bates was away the Boys took over his show for a week. I remember they played some fantastic stuff, the marvelous Loveride by Nuance and Vikki Love for example.

I don't suppose anyone has a list of what they played, it's a bit of a longs hot but I'd love to check some of the stuff out.

I think the different days were documented in one of the earlier editions of Literally. I'll try and dig them out - someone else will probably beat me to it.

I remember they played P-A-S-S-I-O-N (Flirts / Bobby O), Shake it up and Dance (later released on Spaghetti) and Let the music play (Shannon) amongst other stuff, they seemed to have a free reign on what they wanted to play.

I think they also played a megamix by different top dj's on each day.

Those were the days !!!

Isn't it in one of the Literally issues? I remember that, let me go back to my Literally issues from then.

it was superb.. have it as mp3s somewhere.. superb megamixes, some great songs played include Sweet Sensation, Sabrina Johnson's "Peace"..

I know they played age of love by age of love and Dusty's nothing has been proved.

They played wicked tunes like Love and Sas - Don't Stop Now (Mickey Finn Remix) Urban Shakedown - Some Justice, Good 2bad and Hugly - Espania and Felix Don't You Want Me, Baby June What's Your Name and Age of Love by Age of Love

I recorded the week (Monday August 12th to Friday August 16th) onto those 90 min tape things.

I have them right in front of me!!

The did another week the following year.

Oh yes, I am remembering a lot of it. I do know it is in one of the Literally issues.

That'd be great if you could.

I remember them playing Peace by Sabrina Johnston, think it was probably the first time I heard it. PSB connection there of course as they went on to work with Brothers in Rythm who produced that iirc.

The Felix/Age of Love year was the following one. In 91 they played more Euro-pop. I remember "Crucified" by Army of Lovers paticularly.

So you had a copy of Generic Jingle 10 years before it appeaerd on Behaviour F/L.

I have all the tapes of the shows they did locked in my vaults including the Christmas show they did.

Great shows and it was a very exciting time to be a PSB fan.

Also got some interviews like the Jo Whiley interview they did just before the Performance tour and before Where the streets have no name came out.

The Simon Bates interview when they explained they'd just recorded Go West and that they'd been approached by Tina Turners management and some clips from the Very day they had on Radio One.

Oh, the days when Radio One loved PSB!

Do you have any way of recording those onto MP3? They'd be very interesting I'm sure.

There is a way - However, the only tape deck I have is on a small micro system that is in the Kitchen (i.e it cost me about £20!!)

It will also take bloody ages but I'll see what I can do.
