IT'S NOT GONNA BE A SINGLE . Get over it. If not with Fadamental they could have released it to support either Concrete or Cubism. THEY DIDN'T . Yes it's their loss but please can we move on now. There are a dozen threats about this already and that didn't help either.

It SHOULD be a single, as soon as possible. But it won't happen anymore. Third studio album in a row where the commercial potential wasn't used, due to poor single choices or too few singles.

I will always wonder why For Your Own Good and Happiness Is An Option weren't singles. I will always wonder why I Didn't Get Where I Am Today ended up as a B-side, rather than being the lead single from Release. I will always wonder why London was only released in Germany. I will always wonder why a mutilated radio edit of Numb became a single, where you could have picked Integral, The Sodom And Gomorrah Show or Fugitive.

You make some good points here. The single choices from Nightlife were horrible and arguably buried PSB as a commercial force. I'm convinced Happiness Is An Option would have gone top 10 and been A-listed by Radio 1; For Your Own Good likewise. Such momentum would have given Nightlife a much better chance of selling respectably, which it deserved to as it was a great album.

I also agree regarding I Didn't Get Where I Am Today - that would have been the perfect lead single for Release. However, I blame the record company for its exclusion as apparently someone high up recommended the song to be removed as it 'didn't fit'. Bad decision. London being only released in Germany was disappointing, though, good as the song was, I don't think a wider release would have had any effect on album sales.

Moving on to Fundamental, I don't have many complaints really. I think the album sold as well as could have been expected for an act in PSB's position, and I doubt any alternate single strategy would have improved sales (though I do agree about the butchering of Numb). The key was to get the lead single right and they did that with I'm With Stupid, as its chart position and the subsequent sales of Fundamental proved. In retrospect I would have gone with Integral as the second single but I don't think it would have made a difference.

I'm not convinced that, at this stage, different choices of singles would have had a stronger impact on the charts. I think the PSB have an active and loyal following, but fail to attract new fans that would make a difference to chart placings.
