Hospital again

#1 Post by StevePSB »

Just to let you know that I will be back in hospital tomorrow. Compared to last time, it will only be brief. They are taking a fluid sample from my knee area to check if the infection has completely cleared or not - obviously I am really, really hoping it has gone! The sample is being taken at some point on Wednesday, and depending on what time they do it (I suspect late in the afternoon) there's a good chance I will probably be stuck there until some point on Thursday. That's because they are having to arrange transport to and from the hospital for me, and of course, the transport people work normal hours, so if I don't get back up from theatre and am not officially discharged until after working hours I'm stuck there for another night whether I like it or not.

See you all Weds or Thurs. :)

Fingers crossed for you, Steve... hope your infection has cleared up and your hospital stay is brief!
And everything about tonight feels right and so young
And anything I'd want to say out loud will be sung
It's in the music...

And if the news isn't what you want, Steve, let there be no knee-jerk reactions.

Drico.

PS I'll get my coat.

If the result isn't what I want then... well, I will be a long, long way from a happy place. The prospect of losing my leg would then become a very real danger, and even a best case scenario would mean more operations and months more off work on top of what I still have to face if things go to plan. That's why I'm hoping against hope that it is clear...

I know you were joking, btw, and fear not - I'm not offended.

Back again. :)

Now I just wait for them to let me know if the infection is gone, and if so then I finally get to see the tiniest bit of light at the end of the very dark and very long tunnel I've been in since December 10th last year.

I got the phone call on Wednesday to let me know that after two weeks there was no infection growing from the sample they took. They keep it for three weeks before they can be totally sure, so a few days to go, but they did say that the previous sample taken was growing an infection in the lab within three days, so by comparison all looks very positive. They've even ordered my new £12,000 prosthesis, so they must be near 100% confident the infection is gone to authorise such expenditure.

So now I wait for the prosthesis to be manufactured and for the hospital to get me in to put it back in my leg. I was told 'a couple of weeks' on the phone, but given recent previous experiences of given time frames with this hospital, I will take that with the required pinch of salt. I hope it is sooner, rather than later though as after 6 months of all this, and 6 months of no work, I've really had enough of it all and want to get back to normality! I can see me missing the start of the football season at this rate!
