High comedy from sadistic coach Sue Sylvester, played by an awesome Jane Lynch.

Not snarky, not "ironic", just wonderfully big-hearted and dorkily fun. Don't bring chic, too-cool attitudes when it comes to the music on this show, it's the furthest thing from avant-garde. Check your brain at he door. But it is phenomenally successful even among cynical bastards like myself, the show just.. smiles. Maybe that means something in these rotten economic times. Glee is a joy, unironically. Drico shall hate it. But that's all right.
Glee is so uncool, it's cool.

But is it as good as Shameless?

Well, you have to admit that that whimsical documentary of your Knifecrime Island got stale, dinnit?
I think it was the episode where the unattractive Designated Gay Boy ended up sleeping with his half-brother half-incestuously that I decided I was sort of done with Shameless. I'm no prude, I've seen 40 episodes of it, I just decided I was done with wallowing in that particular muck. Transgression as comedy becomes cynical hackdom after a while.

I'm glad Blossom liked Glee. And it gets steadily better. I didn't say it was titanically perfect in every way, just that it is a fine show that weirdly unites people talking about it the next day on the internet, hipsters and grandmas and the gays and the media snark-bloggers. It has a good heart and at its best, entertains, the characters are clichèd but unhappy, ironically. But the pleasure from some of the musical numbers aren't ironic- they are sincere, in a bright big way, that makes the caustic nonstop postmodern "irony" of shows like Shameless sort of stale.
