Come Dine With Me?

#1 Post by Undertaker »

If you could invite anyone for dinner, past or present, alive or dead, fiction or real, who would you have sit around your table?

Lets say a maximum of ten guests.

My invitations ;-

Neil Tennant
Chris Lowe
Winston Churchill
David Jason
Jimmy White
Paul Gascoigne
Joan of Arc
Norman Bates
Stanley Laurel
Oliver Hardy

You'd better make sure the food was good though, a guy I know served him in a hotel in York, and he was the most obnoxious and arrogant little man they'd ever served there !

Victor Meldrew is a great choice.

My Aunt used to walk her dog in the same field as David Jason. She said he was the nicest guy you could ever meet. He is a midget, though. I've heard a few tales about celebs that are complete t****. Jack Dee and Alex Higgins, to name two. Must be something wrong with little people.

Further away - because a superior host has to have a superior hostess.
Deschanel - for tales of the city, flamboyant gossip, and a handy supply of interesting substances.
glennjridge - to appall everybody with his neoconservative views, perfectly getting the conversation flowing.
Lush - to be appalled by the Ridgester, but to tacitly agree with him thereby giving some moral support and keeping the controversy bubbling along nicely.
BlueSwan - to be appalled by Lush and *kisk* his ass (because every party needs a little kisking).
Your Funny Uncle - for a touch of glamour.
Patrick Bateman - because someone has to be more verbose than me.
Victor 5 - for the musical entertainment.
Undertaker - because somebody has to fart, let themselves down, and ruin the evening's grotesque supercilious pretense.
Geowayne (undercover as a waiter) - to run a post-party poll of the guests to determine if anybody enjoyed themselves, if not why not, and if so whether that was down to Victorin's cover of BlueSwan's Do Me Right or his impromptu and sexually explicit live performance of My Boy Lollipop.

Drico.

I love Undertaker's idea of a dinner party. But ten is too many! Because all the brilliant people would talk to each other, and not you or me, and we'd feel quite left out. You'd go have a cry really. Famous people like other famous people, and it would be a humbling stupid thing. Because although Undertaker is indeed an incredibly great guy you wanna meet and have beers with someday, celebrities are the most boring people on Earth. Deeply stupid too these days. They really are f***ing boring.

Better to keep it to four. When Jackie Kennedy was Queen of the World, she understood this. Don't overwhelm people with fame at a dinner table. Go lightly. Actually, when she was a teenager, she won Vogue magazine's Prix de Paris - an internship in Paris at Vogue , and the essay question was about a fantasy dinner party. She chose Oscar Wilde and Baudelaire and I forget whom. Jackie had a feel for transgression and romantic decadence. As First Lady she split the one long banquet table model (like the Queen) up into many smaller tables, to facilitate conversation, with a generous amount of people from the arts invited for once. The galas and dinners of the Kennedy era were indeed mixed and glamorous, arts and diplomacy in a rather royal way the US had never seen before. And it was grand. And then it was murdered in Dallas, and that dream died. And we're still fighting it out with the assassins. Yeah, raise that Confederate flag, you traitorous, racist fvcks.

I'd love to have a glass of wine someday with Neil Tennant. And I'd probably gush like a fan, and that would be unwelcome. Better to just say hi, leave it. Meeting your idols is often a mistake.

I'd go to Drico's hypothetical dinner party any day though.

This is why I didn't go to the backstage deal on the recent tour in the US. I know some went and were really excited about it. But I just can't make myself have a contrived conversation for 5 minutes with them. And I'd want to ask as@hole technical questions about the music, because I have many. While I seem to connect to Neil more than most any other lead singer when it comes to views and reading material and such, I still don't know him, and wouldn't want to pretend to be friendly.

No alig? Shamful.

I'm changing my invitations. Jesus has no dress sense and Coloumbus wants to bring his telescope. I forgot about Laurel and Hardy. They can come in instead.

I honestly don't get Oscar Wilde. I read Dorian Grey and it left me cold.

cold? if left you "cold" even in the moment when poor painter describes what all he felt for Dorian,..that poor beautiful actress ..it all leaves one cold????
...then read what Oscar wrote from prison - that ..could that possibly leave one cold?????
Yeah, man, it left me cold. It was also very boring, very slow. Go to amazon and you'll find more like me in the reviews.
