20 Pound Note

I have a question for those in the UK. I read today that the 20 pound note was not only replaced but is not legal tender as of June 30th. How much warning did you get? Do you think anyone got gyped in the process?

The first link in that search made it abundantly clear that you can still pay the old notes into banks for the next few months and at worst you can swap them with the Bank of England so no one will be "gyped." The multitude of links from major UK news outlets made it clear that there's been plenty of publicity. Your questions were redundant.

I haven't seen one of those £20 notes for over a year. They started to replace them a long, long time ago, when they announced that it would eventually be withdrawn, so there are very few still in circulation anyway.

I can't remember the last time I saw an 'Elgar' £20 note. I quite like the 'Smith' £20. It's well hologrammed and watermarked - unlike previous high-denomination notes issued by the Bank of England. I always shudder when I see a BoE £50 note - it looks so dodgy.

I had £700 worth of the old notes last week!
I got paid for work by some old guy who kept all his money at home, and when he saw it on the news asked if I minded as he didn't want to take it into the bank himself. My bank didn't bat an eyelid and there was no problem.

Come on, the Bank of England wouldn't just decide that huge sums of currency in circulation were to instantly become worthless. That sort of ridiculousness only happens in places like Myanmar and North Korea.

I was just in canada, and as usual I had to exchange currency. its too irritating. there should be one currency everywhere. it should be the american dollar though.I dont want to learn new money
