I saw Wierd Al a couple days ago. My dad had bought tickets for him, myself, and my gf without really asking if we wanted to go first, and I wasn't overly excited. I grew up enjoying songs like Amish Paradise, but the thought of a full show of that seemed a bit much.
I was wrong. Wierd Al appears to beat not only the Pet Shop Boys, but Madonna, and any other pop icon at longetivity in appealing to each NEW generation. The audience was a mixture of ages from 8 to 80, literally. You get more pop deconstruction thrown at you in 2 hours than you could get anywhere else. Sure, his lyrics aren't always funny, but his band always is incredibly faithful to the original track, and Al is a true performer/entertainer; more than you can say for Neil and Chris. I have to imagine that most of the kids in the audience don't even remember Alanis Moresiette at this point, much less Devo. I have this feeling that the British don't like Wierd Al at all. IS that true?
If you don't like his stuff, I dare you to find this Devo parody no good:

And tryin' to figure out what happened to 'Germaine Propaine'
"He couldn't have fell off that hard" Ain't no way
"What happened to the way you was rappin' when you was scandalous
That Canibus turned into a television evangelist"
Plus he raps with his regular voice [BOOSH! BOOSH!]
[BOOSH! BOOSH!] (What was that?) Pet Shop Boys

Yo, Mr. Dopeman, you think your slick;
Ya sold crack to my sister, and now she's sick.
But if she happens to die, because of your drug;
Im puttin' in your culo, a .38 slug!
