PSB's talk has rubbed off on Robbie

#1 Post by karnsculpture »

Spot the place where Robbie Williams proves he's been listening to Neil and Chris, or he's been here:

I touched upon this on one of the Thursday threads.

Robbie making his views clear, but funny, Pet Shop Boys haven't made a peep about it. Its just the fans getting their knickers in a twist. Robbie fans on the other hand, there's no petition to get him back on Radio 1. I've been scouring the official forum and no-one's complaining about Radio 1's agism, or moping at the fact that despite Candy's success, the following two singles have bombed.

As well as the subject matter, it was his use of "imperial phase". I'm certain Neil and/or Chris coined that phrase in their first book ("Literally"?) and it's commonly used here.

Something I don't understand. Robbie is 39 years old, and he's apparently too old for Radio 1's playlist. Eminem is 40 years old, and he's currenty on the A-list. What gives?

+ 1 I've always liked Eminem.

I think its obvious that Robbie isn't really popular anymore. Its hardly agism if Eminem is older and yet he still gets A-listed. What chance has Pet Shop Boys got if they aren't even popular never mind too old?

It's more a question of perception than actual age. Eminem still acts like he's 19, while Robbie is now releasing his second swing album. And even if the members of Daft Punk were 75, Get Lucky would have been on heavy rotation.

However, never mind what's the criteria, Neil & Chris are far too old for Radio One. Whoever thinks otherwise is deluded and/or nickname.

Daft Punk are ageless because nobody knows what they look like. It's proven a smart long term career move.

PS: The members of Daft Punk are actually 38 and 39 respectively. So not that old compared to PSB, really.

And yes, Eminem still looks and acts almost exactly like in 1999.

Seriously. Fook radio one. There's radio 2 and radio 6. Quite frankly everything you want is on those two stations.

I mostly listen to 6 Music but find it's indie snobbery tiresome, i.e. it'll play New Order on a regular basis but PSB only occasionally.

As said, Daft Punk aren't that young, and Nile Rodgers- the guy who gave "Get Lucky" that wonderful sound- is 61 years old.

Dunno, it's like a lot of fashion magazines are having over-40 supermodels from the past on their covers etc. Christy Turlington is forever beautiful at 44. I guess my point is that the media's youth obsession has hit rock-bottom with the likes of Miley Cyrus. Age ain't nothing but a number.

Now its Dizzee Rascal's turn to rage against the Radio 1 playlist, calling them "two-faced p***ks" with regards to the Live Lounge and their playlist decisions.

Dizzee Rascal the rapper who Robbie Williams was a featured artist earlier this year on Goin' Crazy (was so nearly Example).

I'm a little disappointed that the boys wont be appearing in the live lounge. would've been awesome to hear a cover.
