Buy Xbox One PHOTO on ebay, get free Xbox One

#1 Post by ZiggyPSB »

I'm curious to hear reactions.

To summerize, this 19-year old gentleman went on ebay to buy an Xbox One for his 4-year old son. However the listing on ebay was for a photograph of an Xbox One. Said so on the listing and the man knew it, but because it was on the consoles catagory, he bought it anyway. Indeed he got a photo of an Xbox One and paid £450

He went to the media with his sob story, and not only was he given a full refund from ebay and the seller is banned...

...but an employee of CEX gives him a free Xbox One as an act-of-kindness for his story.

Don't about you but to me its so ridiculous it sounds like a scam had taken place. Moral of the story is, it pays to be stupid. Don't think I'll shop at CEX again.

Not only that but an Xbox One had only come out recently. There are stock shortages and lots of people are waiting to buy it. Some people are buying an Xbox One, trading it in within a few weeks to CEX and they charge 20% more than what it cost brand new at Game/HMV etc. It sounds like people buying multiple copies of the PSB Electric vinyl release and selling it on ebay for an extra 500%, before they even got their hands on the copies they're selling.

That's the modern world, so very sad, and I'm not saying I haven't sold things on ebay for high prices either, that's just the way things work, where there is demand it will happen and does all the time. The fact that an actual store is doing this so blatantly though is quite appalling, to think you can go to the high street, buy it in one shop which then quickly sells out then sell it to the one next door for a profit who then sell it on to desperate people who pay over the odds for Christmas presents because their son or daughter wants it for Christmas. There is no shame anymore..... Christmas spirit anyone?

Yes Ebay are very good at protecting buyers, but utterly appalling at protecting sellers from dishonest buyers!

That said, I sold some CDs recently and I was a few days late in sending them.

The buyer happily opened a case against me and the money received was subsequently "held" pending the case
I submitted tracking details
Buyer then acknowledged receipt and proof was easily available on line
Buyer wouldn't close the case so money remained pending

I then had to escalate case to ebay who closed the case in my favour and the money then became available

Note to sellers, ALWAYS send goods at least recorded delivery or you don't really have a leg to stand on.

Don't use HERMES as they leave parcels outside if youre not in.

eBay are shysters. They have it so finely tuned now to prevent the standard human practice of actually communicating with the person you are doing business with. A buyer is no longer able to simply inquire with a seller where the goods are if they are delayed. Ebay forces them to open a 'case'. I use ebay as infrequently as I possibly can.

James, are you saying that once you have sold and shipped the item, and marked them as such on ebay, you can no longer communicate with the buyer? I never sold anything on it, just bought, very rarely in the last years, but I know there's tons of restrictions going on.

You have to raise a case to ask a question about where your delivery is if you are a buyer. Havent sold anything on ebay for a very long time so dont know about selling.
