PSB Forum "Freedom of Speech" Referendum

Seeing that yet another post, this time about a pretty important upcoming British "event" (shhhhhhhh) has been hidden away as to not risk "offending" those that have a problem with freedom of speech and such I think that we need our own referendum to decide on whether people believe it is actually necessary and correct to bow down to those that wish to silence others for no other reason than the fact they are bigots.

Options are simple,
Vote Stay = Freedom of speech is what our culture and communities are all about, we are all adults and are more than capable of accepting other opinions and views without silencing those we disagree with and can simply ignore such views and posts that we see fit and that we may find offensive somehow.
Vote Leave = Freedom of speech can go to Hell! Those with views that do not match our own will burn in eternal Hellfire and they have no right expressing such views in a place like this, we are incapable of accepting the rights of others because they are wrong and we are right and that is the end of it. Oh and they are racists (and are probably smelly), but that is pretty obvious isn't it???

I miss the old off forum place but it got retarded. Everything turned into a polictical slanging match with boring insults everywhere. Warning after warning was ignored by most.

Some of those asylum topics were an embarrassment and tedious. It was the same old crap that was being spouted over and over again. Nothing was a debate anymore. It was a bitch fight. If that could be curbed, it would be great to have it back how it was.

Everyone likes a row, debate etc but it got pathetic.

I second what Undertaker said. Plus, those wayward discussions undermined the fact that this is a Pet Shop Boys forum. There is no shortage of more suitable locations on the internet for such robust discussions.

So therefore an off topic discussion section should not exist at all? Or should it exist but just without topics that some people chose to either not want to take part in or take offense at others opinions (which is why I mentioned the word bigot in the first post because that is what that is)? As this could be any and everything I therefore go back to my first point that this off topic section should not exist according to your logic.

At the end of the day people spend a lot of time here (I do anyway) which is why we should have the right to discuss whatever we want so to please a few people with strange and frankly bizarre attitudes is wrong in my opinion and takes political correctness to a whole new leve. Forcing people into silence is anything but democratic and in our societies we should all know better. If there is a topic that people either don't want to read about or one in which they cannot accept other people's opinions and views then the common sense and simple thing for them to do is to ignore it and move on and that is what we should be enforcing here. It's not rocket science. To force everybody to miss out and have the topics hidden is simply ridiculous and is bowing down to the bigots and haters. There is no excuse.

Anyway, I am pleased to see that Disco 2 is currently leading the way with 2 votes. Could this be the way forward for a better world??!

I think you need to broaden your perspective a little...

This site is run and operated, voluntarily and free of charge by a few dedicated Petheads, to enable us to discuss matters relating to the Pet Shop Boys.

As far as I'm concerned, complaining that a free service doesn't offer you additional services which have no connection to the site's purpose, is incredibly rude and unappreciative.

Look... I'm as against political correctness as you, but that doesn't automatically mean that this site's volunteers are under any obligation to monitor and moderate highly-flammable off-topic discussions. They didn't sign up for that, nor should they be burdened with higher obligations on their time and effort than they're willing to undertake. They do enough, and as far as I'm concerned, they do it very well - with patience and impartiality.

Yes, some discussions get heated but that is life! The topics were only closed because of people with bigoted views who complained and forced the issue and like I said before and make no apology for either "there is no excuse". That is not an attack on anybody in particular and I acknowledge and respect the moderators but the thing that could and should have been done was to simply make it clear to the people taking issue with things that they should ignore the topics in question and move on. It's not rocket science, in fact it is very simple. Shouldn't even have to be told but in this age of the ridiculous pc culture unfortunately it does. The off topic part of the forum basically died when things changed and I have no doubt that the banning and moving of topics to an opt in part of the forum did it as people simply do not like to be told they are limited on what they can say. We obviously disagree on this but that's fine by me.

Erm, don't quite get what your trying to prove there to be honest but think yourself lucky you're allowed to. Freedom is nice isn't it?

Maybe you clicked on this topic thinking it was about puppies and kittens or something? Try googling them instead rather than clicking on a topic that you obviously don't want to read about OR even let others freely do so which is frankly pathetic and shows a lack of common sense and much more besides that. Pretty desperate when you even edit one of my posts! But if it makes you feel better then well done!
