Decades later and seemingly thousands of pop genres later, I was feverishly trying to change my music stream to something I could stand. Inadvertently, I stumbled onto one channel, among scores of others, on the DI.FM.com site. It's called Epic Trance. Because, you know, I need to be in a trance-like state to carry out my type of work. But I never bothered to understand what trance means, until now.

The PSB remix I'm recommending here mixes synth pop, house, and trance, which just begs for some enlightened defining, and here, for those of you who are so inclined, is the best and shortest distinction between house and trance (despite the numerous grammatical errors) that I can find:

Today, I'm kinda beside myself with enthusiasm for this remix. There are old favorites and more obscure works. It begins right away with "trance" "Domino Dancing" and ends with a long, hard-to-understand Neil soliloquy and then "Home and Dry". Two of my favorites, "New York City Boy" and "The Sodom and Gomorrah Show" (Can I say groovy about this trance version without being slapped around?) are included, along with "Being Boring". But I must say, it takes some adapting because this genius remix manages to crisscross genres, even within the same tune! You are lulled for a time with pure trance and then, bang, it becomes house or pure synth pop, just not blowing the roof off. In short, I'm suggesting that this PSB remix makes for "easy listening", if that's what you want, or "dancing in your pajamas", if that's what you want. It clocks in at a little over two hours twenty minutes. So, you might want to take a quick "dip" now and schedule accordingly:

FADE OUT: It was likely a warmish day in San Francisco on November 27, 1978. I can't pinpoint it that exactly. I was working for DSS just a few blocks from City Hall. George Moscone was mayor, and Harvey Milk was Supervisor. When Dianne Feinstein, later to become mayor, now senior U.S. Senator from California, found Harvey, she could smell the gunpowder, tried to find his pulse, and, instead, put her finger in a bullet hole. (He had been hit in the wrist with one shot.) But she didn't really have to since a fourth round to the head killed him, and, just to make sure, the killer put a fifth round in his skull at close range. This event is burned into the collective LGBTQ psyche. Thirty years later in 2008, Sean Penn won the Oscar for Best Actor (his second) for his portrayal of Harvey Milk. Here he speaks of an obligation neither Bear Boy (see "These Magic Moments, Part II" this forum) nor Highschooler Pete (see image attached) could ever have imagined. Pete grew up in South Bend; David grew up in Valpo, 56 miles west and south via I-80/90, but really no distance between them:

And in the next year, the Bee Gees introduced "Tragedy". You will have three choices in the following order: live in Berlin, but with poor sound; MGM Grand performance with top-notch sound so you can understand the lyrics, but sound only; and a live studio session with nice close-ups of all the brothers.
