Recommend other artists

#1 Post by Sage »

Hey guys,
I love PSB but always want more.
What are some similar artists other petheads would recommend?

I'm curious what people here like.
I love the dance vibe, the synths, the strings, the vocal style, lyrics, etc. of PSB.
I'd like something along the general vibe and with vocals.

Artist wise I like The Presets, Human League, Abba, Depeche Mode, New Order, Phil Collins, Hall & Oates, Cut Copy.
For genres I like 80's pop, acid house, dance/electronic, synthwave, vaporwave. Not really into progressive EDM.
Albums I'd recommend are: The Dollar Album by Dollar, Off the Record by Karl Bartos, From Here to Eternity by Giorgio Moroder, The Other Two & You by The Other Two, Walking Wounded by Everything But The Girl, Mr. Bad Guy by Freddie Mercury.
They may not sound exactly like Pet Shop Boys but they're some of my favourites.

Hi Sage
Like your pet heads terminology for us psb fans.
Guess I'm a pet head as well. Love the music and the lyrics always seem to strike a chord with me.
Like you I'm also a fan of Phil Collins, Depeche Mode, Human Leagye and New order Also like Kraftwerk and Jean Michel Jarre.. For Genres I love 80s pop, synth, new wave, dance electronic, acid house like you and some Techno and Rave from the days when I used to go to the events.
If I was going to recommend some music to listen to then three albums that I have been playing a lot recently alongside the please album from psb (which is a record I love dearly and could talk about on its own for hours I think) are Black Wonderful Life. Swing out Sister, It's Better to Travl and Johnny Hates Jazz, Turn Back the Clock. All originally released on the mid to late Eighties. On each album there's the hits that got me into them, but when you listen to the whole album there is a great listening experience that makes me happy and sometimes sad. For me any music that can elicit an emotional response is great music. When I say sad it is often for times past and people who were part of them, so feeling sad is ok.
I will listen to some of your recommendations and let you know on them. Of course I am a big fan of psb and i always come back to them, but I do like lots of other music to. Some similar or in the same genre as psb, some very different.
Hope to speak soon.
Mark.

What about Royksopp, The Beloved and Air (Moon Safari)? :D Oh, there is Scooter too but, I think I am getting a bit too old for them now as their music is loud.

I recommend the lovely Molly Nilsson, and you might recognise something PSB from the song below.
