A Respectful Word to Trolls

#1 Post by scienceguy »

A word to trolls....you know who you are...

In the view of some, the comment section following a post is for discussion....what it says on the
homepage. It says Discussion. [discussion, noun, "the action or process of talking about something
in order to reach a decision or to exchange ideas"].This would include constructive criticism,
correction of facts, differing views, opposing arguments, adding enlightening commentary, and so
on. It would probably not include slanderous or defamatory remarks, remarks that impugn the sanity
of the author, or fifth grade gibberish. Granted, the latter is a lesser offense, but no less noxious and
still not classifiable as discussion. Free speech is fine...hold forth on the soapbox, but don't forums
usually have rules?

PSB members, again in the view of some, are assumed to be representatives of the musical legends
known as The Pet Shop Boys. One should remember that the duo is engaged in a business and that
the forum is, in some respect, a form of advertising. So, troll-like behavior is more likely to hurt the
Boys than the author of any given post. Why? Because apparently more guests than members visit
these pages, and, I would argue, get some of their first impressions from both posts and comments.

And then, there's the obvious question. Once having bitten of the bitter fruit, why take another bite?

Just sayin'......

Think about the awesome privilege of posting on this forum:

scienceguy, you have a point there. I agree with that.

You're clearly an attention seeker, which is hardly a crime on this forum, however maybe if you actually engaged in some discussions first and then later, say in fifty or sixty years, post a few cryptic threads we might like you a bit more and really dig what you're saying. Unfortunately by doing what you've done you've made a very negative first impression.

Who's the troll?!

Yes I know who I am and I am one of those you call Trolls. By the way my real name is Matteo.
This quote of your own words is enough for me: yes forums have rules, this one included and your topics are not belonging to the PSB Discussion but to the Off Topic Discussion.
Stop posting them here this one included: talking about forum rules is not PSB Discussion.
This is what I think, without jokes or irony. I know there is also a way to ignore users of this forum, but I didn't block you because I like to take a look from time to time at your posts. I'd like to continue but only if moved to the right section. It is a question of respect.
Is it all clear now? If you feel the need to reply to my words contact me by PM.

Join in occasionally on other topics, respond to other's questions seeking clarification. It's easy to fit in here as it's a broad church - unless you deliberately adopt a marginalised position.

Clearly you are on the spectrum, and that is fine, but a two-way conversation works best, please respond to other members posts occasionally and make yours a little less... comprehensive. It is all very well complaining, and yes some replies are a little harsh, but you do need to take on board some of the points other posters are making about what you write.

In fact, the forum is a more formal way to create a buzz I think. Not like on social media.
