29 years after Future Boy, Cicero, the Pet Shop Boys discovery releases a new album

This song in particular I could see Neil singing on it

Apparently River of Lies is supposed to sound like PSB produced it. Anyone who is a PSB fan should get the album, or at least listen to this song and Turned around which are gold.

It’s no mean feat self producing and releasing a body of work like this and I think it’s great he’s back. But those song titles - if this is a cry for help it’s not exactly coded:

It’s Over
Face This World Alone
In The Rain
River Of Lies
Anyone But You
The Way I Feel Inside
Hide From Life Instead
Broken
Woof.

You know you're in for a fun time when the first track is called It's Over. Now that's what I call Suicide - 8 songs to open your wrists to.

Suicide is no laughing matter... Maybe the man's just moody. I feel like I've read him talking about his struggle with depression, this is probably just a way of dealing with trauma. Since I wasn't a fan of his first record either, will be giving this a pass, but curious to read your impressions!

David Cicero's Mother passed away In April 2020 so maybe some of the songs reflect his grief over her passing?

They are indeed, and his stepfather who died shortly before.

I love sad songs, this album fits my mood. And it helps. I'm one of those who deals with sadness or minor depression listening to sad songs. It makes me feel better.
The Onzio on Spotify
The Onzio on YouTube
Expressing passion, explaining pain
This is my kind of music

Wouldn't it be a terribly nice gesture if the PSB would give this release the slightest nod?

I always wondered why it never worked out with Cicero and PSB.It's like their interest in the whole campaign just withered out before the album was even released. Whether that's because they wanted more creative control and Cicero said no, or they got tired of the whole thing quickly. Same with "Spaghetti Recordings". A big fanfare about their own label and it released five Cicero singles, a Boy George cover, one soundtrack album and a sub-standard euro dance track, then....nothing..

I think they messed up the scheduling basically. They kept plugging away for a second hit to launch the album on the back of but it never came.
Woof.
