Depeche Mode's new album is out, What do we think of it?
It's produced by James Ford who is working on PSB's upcoming album. And obviously Depeche Mode are a synth duo just like PSB. https://www.depechemode.com/mementomori/
Hopefully we get Neil & Chris' opinion of the album soon. No doubt they've got the finger on the pulse with this release.
If we want to make this discussion about PSB, what similarities do you think it'll have with a PSB project?
Keeping in mind this image of vintage synths PSB have posted.

I love Ghosts Again but haven’t heard the album yet.
We know that PSB hate to be lumped in with contemporaries. They like to exist in their own word and carve their own niche. So I am sure they would have had serious reservations about sharing a producer with Depeche Mode, especially at a time when DM have a story to tell, wind in their sails and, for the saddest of reasons, are now also essentially a synth pop duo. I reckon the only way that PSB would be comfortable with this arrangement would be if they were intending to produce something completely different. And given the DM album is electronic, I think we should expect that the PSB will primarily not be. We know Ford can flex and do both. I think we are looking at “real instruments” and / or strings.
Gave it an initial spin through - it's good - very good! Most cohesive album from DM for a while.
Quite a few tracks that got my attention on first listen so that's a good sign. Sonically - there are a few screeching guitars here and there but mostly synths and heavy bass lines - lots of space allowed and Dave's voice is excellent.
Think this album will sound amazing via a good set of headphones.
you could say conventional ... and I could claim intentional
Listened to it this morning and thought it was really boring tbh. I had high hopes after Ghosts Again but that’s the only highlight for me. No other catchy tunes like that one. No memorable choruses.
It's a shame the new album is a bit shit. Dark and lifeless dirges that sound like the musings from a deeply depressed alcoholic monk who conjured them up in his nightmares. Well, at least we got one decent single in "Ghosts Again".
Its their best since Ultra, speak to me is wonderful, as is ghosts again of course.
It’s all opinions though . I love both bands. PSB write better melody, so let’s see what the same producer can do..

I feel like the lead chorus line of Wagging Tongue is a total rip off of something but I can't put my finger on it
I thought that - "Spirit In The Sky" is my best guess. It's probably the second best track on a pretty dismal effort, though.
