New book- “The Pet Shop Boys and the Political”

#1 Post by Meebabi »

I came upon the preorder for this book on Amazon. Looks like it will be released in February. Might be an interesting read.

Looks to be some kind of college/academic text so naturally that's enough reason to charge 10 times as much for it!

yes absolutely. not meant for wide release.

good news is that it will likely be available in uni libraries and probably as ebook through university portals. the contributing writers want their stuff read and quoted as much as possible, so the content will be accessible somehow.

I was hoping this was official or affiliated. It's a book by a nobody.
"An archetypal 'gay band'" I sort of despise this type of branding.
"their overt queerness" are PSB really overtly queer?? Especially in the 80s.
I mean people put PSB in the same vein as New Order and Depeche Mode.
To me, PSB aren't overtly queer. It's only here and there you can even tell they represent that whole thing.

PSB are queer and their early work may not be overtly queer, but it must be obvious to queer listeners.
whats the problem ? just because you dont know the author does not mean they are a nobody.

Oh look, it's time for someone's feelings to be hurt by being associated with queer culture in any shape or form.
Get over it.

As I’m sure many of you have already seen- the book has been published and mentioned on the boys’ social media.

That's the point the above speaker is trying to make. Obvious to queer listeners does not equal overtly queer. Overtly queer refers to the general public eye.
In the 80's I was only a child and "queer" was something unknown to me. So nothing overt about them apart from great tunes and lyrics. The labeling of PSB as a "gay band" is such a mistake.

This title have actually been around for some time, and i read a sample on my Kindle a while ago.
Utter dross
Overtly queercentric, pretetious an pseudo-academic.

Not worth the money

UH 132,50$!!! It Turkish lira equivalent is a small fortune here, almost a flat's one month rent. Hopefully there will still be some copies around when our FX rates are more stabilized.
