Obscure - The chance of an official recording?

I do wish all the people going to Obscure, a great time there.

However for those who can not make it, missed out on a ticket or live overseas . . . Do you think Obscure will be recorded? If so do you think it would be released as a live DVD or just a music CD, something similar to the Concrete CD.

Do you think these more obscure tracks will only be heard live by those who attend or will everyone else have a chance to hear them too. Officially of cause. Not talking about fan recorded bootlegs here.

Considering they've put their name on teasets and skateboards in an effort to top up the pension pot, I would think a live album or bluray is a given.

Personally I think it will depend on if we are going to get a third B-side collection next year (maybe even called Obscure). A live album is certainly possible but I doubt a bluray as I expect visuals to be very stripped back and electronic ballroom not really set up for filming at scale- but who knows!!

I think that it could be recorded for a dvd/cd release as it is something that they know fans would buy. It will definitely sell well.

I was thinking Concrete was the most likely model here - I’d be surprised if there wasn’t an audio release, probably in the Autumn, on CD and certainly vinyl this time, maybe with a lime coloured vinyl exclusive via PSB store given that’s the ‘accent’ colour on the ads for these shows. But I’d also be surprised if there WAS any visual memento released - PSBs have for some time now been one of the very last remaining artists to bother with physical releases of concert shows (Depeche another) - so I always tell myself each time they bring one out ‘sooner or later they’ll knock this in the head too and just go digital’. The pessimist in me thinks after the kerfuffle getting Dreamworld out, that (when it arrives) might be the last time. But no, gut feels says to me I do t think they will release a blu ray/DVD.

As for whether it's worth recording, I'd say yes. They should.
The audio channels are already feeding through the panel, may as well professionally record all 5 nights and curate, mix, master them into an optimal start to finish live album.

Whether they'll release it, that's another thing. It would be a bit out of the ordinary to launch an offshoot live album.
But to be fair, they've been doing odd things. The All the Young Dudes releases were a bit strange, with the orchestral version and version that swaps into WE​G. The IA​S soundtrack mix was also a strange release.
Like others said, the merch items recently (tea set, skateboards, fold-out fans) are another example of making a buck out of anything.
I feel like, a Record Store Day release of the Obscure live album on vinyl would be well-received.
Annually 2027 bonus CD perhaps?
I just can't really imagine the release, it's already quite the niche appeal without adding the live element.
Dedicated fans would lap it up though, for sure.

They could always record it and keep it in the archives for a couple of decades.
This is quite the historic live set.

I think that given the nature of these shows which will play to a maximum of 7,500 people total (if more shows aren’t added), in contrast to having a large, dedicated fan base that won’t have the opportunity to participate, we’ll almost certainly see an audio release, perhaps limited, on CD and vinyl. I think a Blu-Ray/DVD is more of a long shot, but given it’s a small theatre it wouldn’t be costly to film something similar to the Savoy concert video.

I'd say a cd/vinyl is a give, in line with Concrete. But I wouldn't discard a big box set with CD/Bluray like Inner Sanctum.

I couldn't get tickets so I can only hope so.

Well, I certainly hope they will release something but there are unfortunately many things they've done which have been relegated to one-offs lieing on the shelves:
A Man From The Future
It Couldn't Happen Here soundtrack
Performance as an audio release
The BBC concert with J Marr

Relentless being held off from proper release for 30 years!
Live in Rio being held off from DVD/audio release for decades.

And we still haven't got the whole Somewhere concerts although there's been DVD release of the concert film.

There are unfortunately so much material on the shelves that Obscure might end up there as well.
I just wish that somebody would persuade them to open the vaults and start a series of releases in the line of Dylan's "Bootleg series". Would be great to have something once or twice a year.

Isn't this just a very basic compilation of tracks from Please, Actually and the 12" singles? What aspect of it is "on the shelf"?
