More on PSB/Bananarama song

Just stumbled on the Bananarama interview in the latest Attitude (the source of the popjustice thread? I couldnt connect to the site).

They confirm that Neil & Chris offered them a song over lunch recently. The track has already been written & demoed by the sound of it, as the girls were looking forward to hearing it before making a decision.

There's also mention of PSB's original intention to get Bananarama to sing the "I love you baby" backing vocals on Where The Streets.

So when will they be taking Rachel Stevens to lunch??

Hopefully not too soon because they wouldn't be able to write a good Rachel Stevens record and the curse of PSB would ensure she'd either go down the dumper or get seriously ill within 6 months of getting inolved with them.

Yeah, her singles only always go top 10 -- very disappointing. Of course we are living in a world where anything but #1 is considered a flop (remember Victoria Beckham's #3 flop single?) and a reason to drop an artist. Or in Victoria's case, a body used to advertise the song.

Isn’t Rachel Stevens already down the dumper? My friend at Polydor informed me that her sales so far have been very disappointing.

Bananarama were on the Jonathan Ross this morning and they played the new single and another new song of the forthcoming album and both sounded really good.

Rachel Stevens isn't down the dumper for the simple reason that Rachel never really happened. She's had two massive #2 singles, one of which a big European hit, but sales of her first album were very low.

She was almost dropped after the single Funky Dory only made #22 and was only given another chance because Richard X had Some Girls ready and she was the only one who could do it. Polydor trusted that RX would turn Rachel around -after all he saved the Sugababes from being dropped because he insisted they should do Freak Like Me. Her album was repackaged with Some Girls and More, More, More and shifted enough for her to do another album.

However, both Negotiate With Love and So Good have not been as big as they should have been because pop at the moment is at an all time low sales-wise and it's very sketchy if she'll get to single #3 (Crazy Boyz, a new Richard X penned/produced single).

Can you get an advanced promo of the new album from your friend in Polydor? The album's supposed to be fantastic and but it might be shelved.

What we can only say for sure, is that getting involved with PSB would be the final nail in the coffin, what with The PSB Curse et al.

I know, I thought the reaction to the Victoria single was kind of exaggerated. I guess since it was released the first week of January it was just expected to make #1 and that anything less would be a flop. Though she could easily have taken the #1 spot in January of this year.

Rachel's fate could be decided by the performance of her current single 'So Good', which was released Monday. It was #10 in the latest midweek update. This and her previous single are from a 'yet to be released' album whose prospects for release will be looking pretty slim if this single misses the top 10.

I really do hope they get together. I think Bananarama and PSB would make beautiful music together.

New Order probably will chart because Sirens is likely to be a different, edited down version of the album track, so the fanbase might snap it up.

Is 'No Time For Tears' still listed for August 29th, by the way? With a bit of luck, the delay with Potemkin might see the single scrapped - if it was ever definitely planned in the first place.

i also thought so and that's no suprise to me after releasing tons of crap.

"fix you" is one of the weakest tracks of x&y and I can't understand why they did not release "talk" or "white shadows". simple plan sounds like the next generation of the bloodhound gang. prodigy i'm excited to listen to and also the single edit of waiting for the sirens' call i'll surely buy. i've heard that they mixed it great but i think it won't be a hit - probably top 20 - top 30 (one week - thirs single) - but happily they're able to release 3 singles again.

by the way: when is the new oasis single to be released? i was happy with their choice. the importance of being idle is the best track on don't believe the truth and also the video is funny to watch.

no matter when psb will release a single off the soundtrack - it won't have any chances to chart well - especially if it's no time for tears. i also think that a single release doesn't make any really sense at all.
