2 qs about Paninaro

#1 Post by weirdalfan1980 »

I understand Paninaro is about the Italian youth cult. But does the word comes from the Italian word for "penis?" Seriously. I asked an Italian co-worker if she heard Paninaro, coming from wheres shes from and she says its "penis" in Italian. I was shocked but coming from the PSB I am not surprised.

Question 2, was the word Cinque in the original 7 inch version? I know its not on the Alternative version but I read that Chris hated the word because it has nothing to do with the Italian youth cult. I like the word in the 12 inch version.

The term Paninaro was born in Italy (Milan) sometimes in the middle of the 80s. The word Panino means Sandwich, a Paninaro was a guy who would hang out in those Italian fast-food where they served all sort of sandwiches. The Paninari had their own rules, and one of them was to dress up with fancy clothes. Paninari had also their own language; some sort of italian slang. There were also two magazines dedicated to that style called "Il Paninaro" and "El Cucador", which means a Playboy, or a Player. Pet Shop Boys made a disco song dedicated to the Paninari, called "Paninaro". The Paninaris had their favorite tunes in those days, one of them was "Wild Boys" by Duran Duran. Here is a list of what Paninari used to wear. - Shirts & Pants(Versace, Armani, Stone Island, Levis) - Jackets (Bomber, Henry Lloyd, Best Company) - Socks (Burlington) - Shows (Timberland) These are the items I still remember, there are probably some missing.

Penis in italian is 'pene'
Paninaro comes from panino = sandwich (as said above)
Cinque = 5. It comes from the birth, in the 80's, of the first private italian TV networks, one of them was called 'Canale5' (= Channel5). Paninari were a cult in the 80s, as well as private italian TV networks were in the same period. Canale5 is still the first private TV network (in terms of audience) and it's controlled by our 1st minister Silvio Berlusconi.

No.
The word 'paninari' is the plural of 'paninaro'
We don't add the 's' to form the plural of the words...
