Empire Mag Review of BP

Apologies if this has already been mentioned here - I've been lucky enough to be in Rome over the weekend so not online. Anyway, Empire Film magazine reviewed the soundtrack CD (it's towards the back of the mag, in the "Soundtrack Reviews" section funnily enough). It's a very favourable review as I remember correctly. If people have trouble tracking it down I can always type it in later in the week, it isn't that long.

Record Collector gave it 4/5, very complimentary review where they basically said that PSB are geniuses!!

Should it be in the DVD reviews section?

Four out of Five Stars

Really more of a concept album than a soundtrack proper, this curious offering from veteran bleep-poppers Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe sees them offer their own, particular musical interpretation of Eisenstein's immensely influential cinematic account of the momentous 1905 mutiny aboard the titular Russian battleship. And it's not so strange a fit as you may think - Tennant is a self declared fan of Soviet cinema and has regularly referenced Russian history in his lyrics over the years. The blend of atmospheric electronica with full-on orchestration works perfectly and the vocals are used sparingly. Of course, not everyone will agree that synth-squidges and 4/4 beats make a suitable accompaniment to Eisenstein's masterwork, but Tennant and Lowe at the very least should be applauded for such audacity.

They're also mentioned in the excellent Star Wars booklet that comes with the mag. Something along the lines of "Like the Pet Shop Boys, always two there are when it comes to the Sith"

chris is obviously the master since whenever I read interviews or those reissue booklets they are filled with little admissions of neil saying such and such song didnt end up on a CD because chris wouldnt have it. neil seems to submit to chris' will generally.

there had to be that .......moment...maybe just once in all the years they have known each other when maybe all the stars lined up perfectly at a certain time and they almost did but after a awkward silence ... they quickly decided against it, and have never dared talked about that moment since.
