it always amazes me that when given a little information, postings on this board of supposed PSB fans become so negative. here are my observations on whats going on:

the album has received great buzz from the few journalists/fans who have heard it. EMI has decided to make and actual effort to promote the album, hence the delay to plan ahead for the release. at the same time N&C are working on b sides for upcoming singles. seems like good news to me.

hopefully something will leak soon so we can all hear what the buzz is about.

I hope you're right, though one might just as well assume that EMI think that a new PSB album need all the help it can get, and thus think that a date in May is less competitive than the original plan. Or maybe they have some other big albums coming out and decided that Neil and Chris could wait. If the delay was actually the result of a decision to heavily increase the promotion, wouldn't Neil be happy about this instead of complaining on his web site? One thing is for sure - the longer they delay the album, the higher the risk that when they come around to releasing it, everyone will have downloaded it months ago, and the actual release date will lose some of it's excitement.

As for the buzz from journalists and fans, I don't really think it's been any better or worse than what you always hear from the band's friends, the record company and the die-hard fans. If they didn't like the album, who on earth would? Every new album by any artist seems to be preceded by a "buzz" stemming mostly from the record company saying that it's their best work ever, or "the best since this and that".

I don't mean to sound pessimistic - I actually have great expectations for this album, as always with PSB. Still, I find it's better not to set oneself up for disappointment.

Maybe having a list of the EMI-artists' new releases for April and May would be interesting to try to understand why EMI has taken this decision.

According to Redman, Neil and him are the ones who put the news on the official site. I suppose if Redman had been the person who put this new wouldn't have used expression like "It's a little frustrating to have to report this". He only had put this new with no information about his feelings. That's my impression.

Oh I think you'll find that in TingTong's 'other' non-writing career an ability to delay is a pre-requisite. It's the performing arts after all, right?

Fundemental release date - 13 February '06
It's a little frustrating to have to report this but EMI have decided to delay the release of Pet Shop Boys' new album, Fundemental, until May 22. The reason is nothing to do with music, artwork or videos, just that they want more "set-up time".

Neil and Chris are in the studio this week completing two tracks to be released as bonus tracks on future singles: "The Resurrectionist" and "Girls don't cry".

I think the frustrating comment is from a fans perspective. Honestly I think the delay is a good thing to rethink the marketing strategy and build on the buzz from the PSB Maxi-mix of Sorry, I actually hear that mix more on XM and in the clubs than I do the regular mix. Who knows may be they'll remix the next Madonna single too.

Wow! I'm soo excited now. Probably as one of the few But they are going to release the album on the date of my 30th Birthday! I can't imagine better gift I will be probably even tempted not to download the album before the release, just wait and buy it on that day... and listento it at home for the first time celebrating my Birthday:-) WOW! i dont recall reading any buzz before "Release" came out. Months before Madonna's new album was released there was an obviously orchestrated buzz everywhere in the media. The advance word on Fundamental seems to be limited to people who have actually heard the album as opposed to press released items pushed by the record company.

if EMI is hopeful about the new album, perhaps based on the early reviews, they need time to plan promotional activity properly, it doesnt happen overnight. as for neil's dissapointment - its totally understandable given that he and Chris probably want the world to hear their new work ASAP. based on the rest of his comments its obvious he's aware of all the mud that is slung around here. most of it based on wacked out theories with no basis in fact.

unlike many so -called fans who post here, im rarely dissapointed by anything PSB do. obviously i like some projects more than others, but everything they do is interesting to me.

of course i'll download the album early, i cant wait to hear it! but i'll also buy the actual disc and whatever singles are released.

To some extent there's some truth in that but EMI have had since Nov/Dec to begin promotion haven't they? There's certainly been no shortage of whacked out theories on here alongside groundless optimisim from many 'fans', even those that aren't afraid to admit everything they do is fine and dandy. I find this more annoying than any understanable aprehension, knowing the history of this forum.

I for one would love a fantastic album that really outclasses Please, Actually and Behaviour, that pushes Release aside and totally bypasses Very and Nightlife, but I've already heard that album this year, and I have strong doubts that the boys can surpass this. Still, I'm sure it will be an above average effort.
