this song reminds me of Neil making fun of Madge in that book PSB vs America. he made fun of her employment of cliches.

sorry to bring this back up but I've been listening to this track a lot lately and Rent found this thread for me. so there's this sound right at the end, AFTER the music dies down. it sounds to me like a child crying (but it's a quickly strangled cry) or maybe a seagull or something? anyone know what I'm talking about? what IS that noise? could it be a chair being pushed back-screetch? *scratches head* it's been driving me batty lately. and what elephant at the beginning? or was that a windup?

'tis a beautiful song though. I'm in luuurve with it atm.

It does, I thought of that sound at the end like a child's squeal or something.

Can't hear a 'blurp' or 'bleurgh' in the intro though

I thought the 'elephant' noise you refer to was a door slamming - just before the vocal starts.
I love this song so much!

At first listen, the intro made me think that it would be another classic in the vein of "It Couldn't Happen Here"; but alas the song dissolves into an ordinary ballad with lyrics being more interesting than the music.

Indefinite Leave to Remain is still my favourite slow number in the album. It is simply beautiful.
