Cool... is it PAL or NTSC?

Is it different to the 3 previously listed by TheGardner?

it's the "Region 0" one on my list and it's PAL! Here the correction:

Code: Select all

   DVD: 2006 NL (Parlophone; 0-0946-3-77695-9 1) [PAL; Region 2]
   DVD: 2006 NL (Parlophone; 0-0946-3-77695-9 1) [PAL; Region 0]
DVD: 2006 AU (Parlophone; 0-0946-3-77695-9 1) [PAL; Region 4; Chapter 18 is missing]
   DVD: 2006 NL (Parlophone; 0-0946-3-78584-9 3) [NTSC; 14 Nov]

Btw Gardner, the NTSC version on your list has been available in Japan for the last two weeks.

hmm was wondering about that in the last days! But I think it should be a japanese release then (not a import). Do you have the TOCP cat number????

I don't have the catalogue number, but the box of the DVD I saw was written completely in English and said "Made in EU" on it. It also had the same sleeve as the standard edition. I presumed it was the North American edition when I saw it.

However, HMV Japan's website would now seem to have a different version listed:

http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/1228638

I haven't seen this version in the shops yet, but I will have a look for it next weekend.

hmm, looks like the Canadian NTSC copy (0-0946-3-78584-9 3). So no real Japanese release this time. Only imports there!

can we recap the entire thing:

- We have a PAL Region 0 DVD (for Europe), which has 'Flamboyant' on it althrough the inlays of ALL DVDs miss the entry for this video in their 'Bonus Material List'

- and we have a PAL Region 2 DVD (for AU), which 'seems' not having the Flamvideo on it - is that correct ???

for the latter - I need someone who can tell me the number of the DVD which can be found on the inner ring of the disc. Should be somethings like "www.mediamotion.com 3776959-1 PAL @ 1"

- we have also a NTSC Region ??? DVD - also without Flamboyant ???
- and a NTSC Region ??? DVD with the video on it??

for these both I need answers on the following questions:

1. Are the inlays of the NTSC versions also miss the entry of the video?
2. what are the disc numbers for both discs, which can be found on the inner ring of the DVD?
3. need the correct labeling of the versions, which can be found in the back inlay over the yellow barcode - there must be somethings like: "NTSC: ALL REGION.... / DISC FORMAT: .... DUAL LASER DISC..."

Thanks for all your help!

I have three different copies of A Life in Pop (gee, I wonder why? ):
  • One is the U.K. PAL version, which has "Flamboyant." No surprise there.

Another is an NTSC version that I ordered from HMV Japan, which says "Made in EU," although the HMV Japan website seems to indicate that it's from Hong Kong. This one also has "Flamboyant."

The third is the NTSC version from Canada. It says "Made in Canada." And it does not include "Flamboyant."
Still no word of official explanation, but I'm working on it. I'll let you know if I hear anything. Also, keep a watch on the official website. Something may be appearing there about it soon, although given the fact that it's the weekend, it may not be until the work week resumes and the EMI offices are open again.

Just to confuse the issue even further, doesn't Hong Kong generally use PAL?

Yes, it does! That's why the HMV Japan site's reference to it being an "HK" (Hong Kong) copy perplexes me, too! Perhaps it was manufactured in the EU and is distributed from Hong Kong primarily for the Japanese market (?). As convoluted as that sounds, it's the only thing that makes sense to me -- at least until someone else can offer a better explanation.

No you got it exactly! After Japan didn't pressed their own copies, the DVD was shipped to Asia from Europe! This already happened a few times in the past and often the DVDs just got a OBI and were selled there right after this (PopArt DVD and CDs).
