Choose a new name for Erasure

The difference between the Erasure re-issue and the PSB re-issues is clear to all but the most monocular Erasure fanatic. PSB released all six of the first studio albums at the same time, and there was a sense of closure with an epoch. It was surely no accident that their next release was Release. Erasure's last two singles have been a track from 1994 and one from 1988. I assume that Sometimes will be next off the block.

PSB and their fans recognise that it is increasingly difficult for a pop act to have relevance more than two decades after their commercial peak. They do however always look to the future, ergo working with Xenomania and not releasing West End girls (2003 'remix') to promote PopArt.

Erasure seem more and more tied to those halycon days when synth-pop duos ruled the charts. They re-release their most successful album, and their fans lament at how the media conspires to deny them their rightful place at the top of pop's table. In Erasureworld it is forever 1988 and Andy has just slipped into a fresh leotard for the recording of tonight's Top of the Pops.

I think that comment i read a while ago was correct, regarding why this was released. It's definatly to remind the powers they are still about. Releasing it when the decision is about to be discussed about Outstanding Achievement. Also, their next album will be out at a similar time next year. Along with that, they also released one of many GH packages at exactly the same time PSB won their Brit (even delaying the original release date)

Not having a pop by the way but it definatly looks like their plan of attack.

Sorry but far too many bizarre "conspiracy theories" as to why they did/didn't, should/shouldn't release or re-release certain albums!
Why should an Erasure release have anything to do with a PSB release? It simply doesn't!
And do people not realise that Erasure released cd singles boxset's rather than album reissues? I personally would have preferred to have PSB cd singles boxset than 2 cd album reissues and I'm sure most collectors would too! Erasure's albums have never been out of print at mute so they probably prefered to target the collectors with the cd singles boxset's, which sold very well it should be said. And Erasure have released 3 greatest hit's packages, is that really many? They had also planned the latest one before the PSB got the Brit too which count's out them lies and the delayed release date could be because of anything! But must be because of the Brit obviously! Just amazes me what some people come up with and I just don't understand why it is so hard to look at Erasure without some kind of PSB "conspiracy" at the same time! It is almost comical!
I also think that PSB should have re-released West End Girls or It's a sin to promote Pop Art as it would have been great to get some modern remixes of a classic song and may well have got a load more radio play and shifted more copies of Pop Art too. They could have released it alongside Miracles and Flamboyant so it would have been a nice extra single release. I don't see any harm in that whatsoever.
Didn't Erasure once release a Christmas EP called "Crackers International" that got to number 2 in the charts? Let the Conspiracy theories commence although obviously it's only Erasure that copy PSB because they top the charts all the time now, do they?

You know that for a fact then, i presume. Jeez, chill out. I don't see the problem with re-releasing The Innocents but to release it when the Brits are decided and also a 21 year anniversary, indicates they wanted to remind the powers they are still about. Anniversaries are usually 5, 10, 20 years etc. Not 21. Although i'm not knocking the decision, it was worth a a try but i feel it was a definate plan behind it.

So you're dismissing the delay until EXACTLY the same week as PSB's Brit, yet offering no explanation of your own. It could have course been delayed for a few other reasons but to release it the same week as the Brits (after being delayed) smells fishy to me. Still, i don't think it was a bad idea. You are slamming my opinion, even though i thought it was a smart move (even though it didn't pay off)

I think you have just summed up what's wrong with Erasure and their fans. They and the fans haven't moved on. There has been hardly any new input in years. Lacking idea's. PSB however, still have the ability to knock out top pop songs and don't need to keep digging up the past to pay the bills.

The newast load of garbage of course!!! Superb!! Erasure fan's haven't "moved on"!!!! Fabulous! So by re-releasing a classic song to promote a "Greatest Hit's" Album is not moving on? And Alongside the new songs as well? Would that really be the end? Really?! You must hate Paninaro 95 then going by that, or is a b-side reissue fine by your own made up anti-Erasure rules!!!!
So what about the LP and cassette releases of Erasure's greatest hits!!! Do they also count individually?
The 2nd pop 20 was released alongside total pop 40 for people who wanted to just get that one without getting the other previously released top 20 and it can hardly be considered a unique release!!! The new 10 tack GH is just an edited version of Hits! which EMI want to release! Surely with the re-issue of the original pop 20 that should make the number of greates hits albums up to 6 by Erasure? No? You make the rules so you tell me!
I imagine that the PSB newspaper greatest Hit's cd doesn't count as a proper PSB release although thank god Erasure never released a newspaper cd! You would have laid into them BIG time!! But it was PSB so it must be fine!!! So funny!!
Has nobody here ever celebrated a 21st birthday or anniversary? Is it really such a big deal and problem for people? I just don't get this obsessive criticism for absolutely nothing, but it is funny!

Paninaro '95 is a remixed (i.e. different to the original, unless it's Always 2009 ) version of a b-side from 1986. As it was released to promote a compilation of their b-sides, it was fairly logical to release a remixed version of one of those b-sides.

There's a huge difference between releasing a remixed b-side as a single to promote a compilation of b-sides, and re-releasing your biggest hits to promote greatest hits albums, but each to their own.

Yeah, Huge difference in re-releasing a remixed b-side to that of an a-side!!!! Absolutely huge!!!!
Especially when you consider that the original Paninaro was released as part of what could be called the Suburbia EP.

Their last album was easily the worst of their career and despite the superb Storm In A Teacup the rest of it sounded like they were on auto-pilot both melodically and lyrically.

Always 2009 is NOT a remix but a different version or new mix: is been remastered, the sound cleaned and made some changes in the chorus parts. In 2009 Always is been remixed by MHC instead.
