Undertow to be released as next single

It's a water vortex, like you see when water goes down the plughole. The colours make it look like the Blue Monday cover and maybe that's intentional, but I think overall the concept makes sense.

Tuff City Kids sounds great - excited for their remixRemark wrote: Sat 11 Feb 2017, 10:11 amBeen listening to Tuff City Kids remixes on Soundcloud this morning...they all sound pretty damn good. Actually I could hear them remixing Burn more than Undertow based on their sound. This Baba Stiltz character though sounds a bit more concerning. Almost everything I've heard on Soundcloud sounds tooooo dubbbbby, down groove, or minimal tech... something that Burn does not need. Oh dear. I've been praying for remixes to Burn and now that we have at least 1, I hope it doesn't fail. Baba's sound is not giving me hope.Tom Angel wrote: Sat 11 Feb 2017, 9:31 am Tuff city kids could be a great choice of remix
they have that similar italo disco feel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xh2e04DNDeE

Listening to this and not hugely enthused about what's in store for the Burn remix either : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ld7qWND3bM
I don't mind this on it's own terms, but if that's where we're headed for the Burn remix, it could be a real yawn-a-thon. Even Baba doesn't look partcularly enthusiastic does he?

Gerd Jansen is one half of Tuff City Kids and a very well respected and excellent house producer and awesome DJ so I'm delighted with that choice.

I fear the Baba Stiltz remix will be dull and monotonous. The Tuff City Kids should be remixing Burn, and BS for Undertow (which I find boring anyway).Gabby wrote: Sat 11 Feb 2017, 9:00 pmTuff City Kids sounds great - excited for their remixRemark wrote: Sat 11 Feb 2017, 10:11 amBeen listening to Tuff City Kids remixes on Soundcloud this morning...they all sound pretty damn good. I like a lot of the Tuff City productions. I even like some of Baba's. Even sill, I'm not optimistic about either remix. Fingers crossed....
I sincerely *love* Disco 2 and listen to it straight through regularly.

They should have released "Undertow" as the first single off "Super".

In fact it looked like they considered to do so. At least one of the "What is SUPER?" campaign snippets was the magnificent Undertow intro tune (which, regrettably, is a bit shadowed in the album version).

Yeah, "The Pop Kids" was a safe choice, a nostalgia-driven sure hit, but "Undertow" could become an attack single.
"I think it’s an amazingly good album, I’ve got to be honest with you. It’s one of the albums I feel most proud of. But for people who don’t really know us, and have a sort of an idea about us, ‘Electric’ is more what the Pet Shop Boys are meant to be."

Re: Undertow to be released as next single
Undertow is my favourite song from Super. I can understand why The Pop Kids was the first single, but for me this would have been the immediate follow-up. Good to see it's "sort of" getting a single release in the end, but it reminds me of "Integral" in the sense of being a "late, sort of single" which would have had a much bigger impact if released during the album campaign, rather than after the event.

Integral would have been a fantastic first single.retrofuturist wrote:Undertow is my favourite song from Super. Re: Undertow to be released as next single
Integral was the biggest single omission of the last decade (or so) and arguably of their career. It should have led Fundamental. It was clearly the best track on the album. I don't care if it sounded like 1984 - that was the point. And it wasn't as if I'm with Stupid - which I really have a soft spot for - didn't sound like 1985. I also think Undertow is a standout track on Super, though I think The Pop Kids is a bit of a classic.
Fugitive, of course, is another missed single, but that was less obvious than Integral in some ways. Then again, I take the view that A Different Point of View, It Always Comes as a Surprise, and This Must Be The Place I Waited Years to Leave should have been singles in the 1990s, so it's all opinions.

Other than overlooking Integral, I've think their single choices have been pretty good over the years. I remember thinking it odd that Seriously was given a downtempo remix for single release, when it was one of only a few uptempo tracks on Behaviour.
I'd have liked to have seen full releases for London and All Over The World... And Undertow for that matter. And A Face Like That would have made a great single too.

I know there were many singles from Very, but I always thought 'a different point of view' should have been a single. I also used to think 'somebody else's business' had a certain single quality too.
