True. Can't believe they didn't even play it live! What a blunder!

It was clearly the best track on the album. I don't care if it sounded like 1984 - that was the point. And it wasn't as if I'm with Stupid - which I really have a soft spot for - didn't sound like 1985. I also think Undertow is a standout track on Super, though I think The Pop Kids is a bit of a classic.

Fugitive, of course, is another missed single, but that was less obvious than Integral in some ways. Then again, I take the view that A Different Point of View, It Always Comes as a Surprise, and This Must Be The Place I Waited Years to Leave should have been singles in the 1990s, so it's all opinions.

^ This.

I couldn't agree more. The intensity of the track demands extraordinary remixes too. We got a few, and in my opinion the Perfect Immaculate mix is good at teasing what could have been done, but I still feel we missed out on something spectacular. The string arrangement alone in Integral is one of the most powerful chord arrangements they have ever produced.

And with Undertow and Burn, I feel that same feeling I did with Integral. I hope we get something fantastic with this "release" in terms of remixes to close out the Super era officially.

'Positive Role Model' could be a good single choice, no?

Integral, along with For All Of Us and The Way It Used To Be are, for me, the biggest ever mistakes for not being singles in their whol career.

Not releasing Integral as a proper single was unforgivable (though I have forgiven them). We did at least get the Disco 4 Integral as a sort of compromise though, and the video is one of their very best in my opinion. Fundamental is one of their best albums but sadly marks the point at which their single campaigns fall into chaos. Sodom was originally to be the first single and of course this didn’t happen because of the title (too suggestive or too intellectual who knows). The first single to be announced was Minimal but this was replaced by Stupid when the album was delayed by a month or so. I initially found Stupid pretty catchy, but I now find it quite annoying and cheesy particularly with its awful video. After Minimal came the disaster that was the Numb single edit (and became their first non-top 20 single in 15 years). The following year there were strong signs for a physical single of Integral to accompany Disco 4 but this was kiboshed. So all in all a c***-up. This occurred again with Yes 3 years later. AOTW relegated to cheesy Christmas EP track and a proper single replaced with Did you see me coming? which, while a great song, shouldn’t have been a replacement for a clear winner of a single (AAAH WINNER…) Then we had the bizarre Germany-only Beautiful people, or should that be Schöne Leute and the rather disturbing Christmas EP which provided a clear example of why you shouldn‘t give the fans what they want. Not releasing Pandemonium or The way it used to be and butchering the AOTW release smacks of a promotional campaign in tatters. I’m glad that in the x2 era, even if there are only three "proper" singles released, we still get two more "improper" ones on dirty old vinyl...!

This may shock you guys, but I'm not a huge Integral fan. It's miles better than I'm with stupid (which makes me want to hide under a boulder), mind you. "Twentieth Century" is a far better.
I sincerely *love* Disco 2 and listen to it straight through regularly.

Twentieth century is hugely underrated.

Agree about Integral / I'm with stupid.

I've always thought that I'm with stupid was an utterly dreadful choice as lead single from Fundamental. After the disappointment of Release, they needed something to come along and punch people in the face while announcing "We're back".

Undertow is brilliant. Anyone who has ever got sucked into a relationship which they knew would end badly, but couldn't help themselves, can relate to the lyrics. I love the darkness and menace which sits behind the music.

While "Integral" and "Minimal" would have indeed been better lead singles for 'Fundamental', I think I'm in the minority in feeling that "I'm With Stupid" DID punch people in the face and announced an exciting comeback.

After the more mellow, low key 'Release', I was thrilled with the BIG sound and electronic arrangement of "I'm With Stupid".

That's quite right. Coming back with a straight stomper like "Integral" would have been a really predictable move. I like "I'm with stupid" because it belongs in the "Leaving" category, IE it's not really what it seems - just like "Leaving" is an hidden stomper (a quality brought out by the amazing remixes), "I'm with stupid" sounds at first like a stomper, then you realise it's actually just italodisco - it's like discovering a theme song from some hidden '80s italian football tv show you never knew before, which is always a great thing.

In my opinion, the first single from "Fundamental" should have ben TSAGS and PSB thought the same.

The 7" versión (I'm sure it is going to be included in the further listenings)

Matt - you are on my wavelength here. Totally agree with all of these. For All Of Us especially - that demo that was released on their website for a short while back in the late 90s still gives me shivers.
you could say conventional ... and I could claim intentional
