after several listens ... the following 6 tracks I think are all excellent and will make it to my 'Depeche Mode selected' playlist

I hear the Kraftwerk influence in People are good - feels like something from Minimum Maximum. Also, as someone mentioned earlier ... this album sounds superb in a car and the audio separation really comes into its own.

Got the coloured vinyl of MM and must say I like it, for me it's their best album since Exciter. The kraftwerk-esque People Are Good is my favourite song so far.

The trouble with legacy acts like DM (but also acts like Duran Duran and post-1997 Bowie) is their preference for plodding mid-tempo stuff that is neither a ballad not a stomper. A full album of mid-tempo stuff is simply dull to my ears. That's why I like the Pet Shop Boys who usually avoid this.

The new Depeche Mode record is nothing less than a masterpiece.
The songwriting is superb and the atmosphere is just intense.
Can't stop listening to it the last 14 days.

I have wanted to wait until now to make my assessment since I consider that I do not think it is fair to do it on the first listen since albums like these are not focused on such a commercial sound.

That being said, I consider it a very intimate and deep album (dark as Depeche Mode is in their mid-tempo songs). This doesn't disappoint because like many other big groups they don't need super-hits these days. Today the super-hits are of another type.

I think the production corresponds to the intentions and I think that James Ford has done a good job recreating the atmosphere that they wanted to create with this record. According to the tracks and theme of the album.

Undoubtedly a song that I love is Ghost again and as expected there are weaker songs such as People are good which I consider that the chorus is too insistent but, I also have to consider that it is one of the songs that you like the most transports the Depeche Mode of the early years.

Other themes that I also love is Always you. In this case it is a sound that I consider an evolution of Exiter.

In short, I think it is an album to enjoy calm and reflective, which I think was the intention.

The truth is that I've been listening to all the songs a lot lately except for My Cosmos is Mine and that Ghos Again is catchy. I think it's an album that lives up to the task and that James Ford has done a very good job recreating what they wanted without losing the Depeche Mode personality.

I think that the work he will do with Pet Shop Boys will also be up to the task without a doubt.

Pretty phenomenal. James Ford did work wonders.
Dave Gahan's voice holds up really well. Martin Gore the same. Great seeing the duo.

Apparently a lot of the screenings (it's being shown on the 28th of October and the 30th) don't have a lot of attendees.
So I thought I'd recommend it to the petheads here. Obviously it's a different music style but there's a bit of overlap.

Haven’t liked anything from the Mode since Ultra / Precious. Everything sounds the same, all mid tempo with weird distortion effects on all the songs and terrible plodding production. Vocals sound like someone yawning and stretching waking up in the morning. It’s a cliche to say it, but when Alan Wilder left the magic of their songs faded.

Wrong was pretty good but generally all lukeworm tracks, neither terrible nor very good, nothing to write home about.

Yes, move it, but before you do, this seems like a good place to report that we went to see the "Depeche Mode: M" movie tonight at the same place where we saw "PSBD:TGHLIC" last year (Cinepolis Inglewood) and we weren't the only people in the theater this time.

I like the concept of the movie - concert footage intercut with discussions of Mexican culture and its relationship with death - but yeah, DM are way too heavy for me these days.
