You're overestimating the public. Ultimately, the Boys are never going to do what you suggest because they know it won't work in their favour.
Errant nonsense. The physical sales of the last few albums have generally been the same, so therefore if the same people are buying the records no matter how extensive the campaign there is absolutely zilch to be gained by the campaigns and their quaint 1980s thought processes.
They've sold similar quantities with their past few studio albums because they've put the effort in. Dropping an album out of the blue with no promo and no physical release and isn't going to work. There's nothing 80s about their album campaigns.
LMAO, give or take a few dozen, it's the SAME people. The same people who read Superdeluxeedition, the BBC, the Guardian, the official social media and even THIS site :-D

I mean, do any of us have the credentials to talk about what works and doesn't work in marketing?
I'd leave it to the experts.

With that said, I want to point of some successfully artists just release new music out of nowhere and still have great reception. Namely Drake. Though he literally is the number 1 artist on Spotify as of writing so perhaps he doesn't need the marketing.

Personally I enjoy the lead up to a PSB album release. Interviews, insights, live performances.
It makes the album more of an era or a movement than just a piece of music.
They get to conceptualise it think of any PSB album and the visuals. I.e. Fundamental, Very, Actually.

"There's nothing 80s about their album campaigns." It's worth noting the mass majority of Hotspot marketing was radio interviews. Very old school instead of appearing on podcasts and doing livestreams.

Wonder if they just prefer that, or if they trust radio more? Maybe podcasts might be too loose for them with the questioning and format. With radio I imagine there might be more opportunity to pre-arrange the tone.

Speaking of the new album, lately I've been thinking that a collaboration with Mylène Farmer would be amazing just like they did with Dusty Springfield.

I think it would be incredible.

I've been thinking about this, the difference between the traditional form of album promotion and the more modern method of dropping a new album out of nowhere without any advance notice. Here's a thought, while it's true PSB's fanbase has remained about the same size for many years, if one thinks about it that's quite an accomplishment for an act that's been around for nearly 40 years. People move on from a group, people pass away, etc. The fact that PSB are bringing in enough new people to continually make-up for the ones who move on for one reason or another is actually pretty amazing. I think their strategy of using the traditional methods such as singles, long PR campaigns, etc. has a lot to do with that.

This! A link is even there since "Disappointed"/"Desenchantée".
A blues would be in B flat, pain defining wisdom,
but the soul is in the high hat, programmed in the system.

Mylène Farmer has many songs that you could imagine with a collaboration with PSB. An example could be L'Emprise from the Dungeons and Dragons soundtrack. Or even À tout jamais.

As I say, a collaboration like this could be a breath of fresh air.

Martyn Ware, of Heaven 17 and The Human League fame, has a fairly extensive interview with James Ford in his latest podcast episode of Electronically Yours.
I haven't listened to it all as yet, so I'm not sure if he mentions his recent work with PSB, but it's fairly interesting anyway.
I didn't realise that he started producing the first Arctic Monkeys album and then was suddenly replaced by the record company. Or that Martyn Ware also put himself forward to produce the Arctic's first album.

I had a listen to it yesterday. Apart from Martin listing the Artists James has worked with, there’s no mention of the boys.

Suspect we won’t see this until spring next year. But that’s fine with me. Just super excited now!
Burning The Heather would have been great on this album

Well as far as promotion and who exactly is buying the album, they sort of did limit themselves this time around despite all the PR, they've lost the Taylor Swift fanbase
