I like it, reminds me of Shameless, but it needs a bit more development

I like Adrenaline and I like a lot the sounds at the end of the song. There is something joyful that reminds me the classic PSB.

I don´t like Adrenaline. It reminds me" typical PSB sound doing the same song over and over again". I really like Miserere or The dark end of the street. Not very fan of James Ford productions. I prefer Stuart Price.

Yeah, the song is alright, but lacks excitement.glennjridge wrote: Mon 25 Nov 2024, 2:47 pm It’s kind of fluff… pedestrian… but I really love that sort of breakdown section in the middle of the song where it becomes an instrumental and it’s very lush. but I do agree the music doesn’t fit the song title.
I just had another thought though… Since the dawning of AI vocal processing, technically Chris, if he wanted could sing using Neil’s voice.
Maybe we have already listened to AI Neil and we haven't even noticed! First Chris has a body double and now this!

The song is spoiled for me by Neil’s peculiar pronunciation of its title.Nickname wrote: Mon 25 Nov 2024, 4:23 pm I like Adrenaline and I like a lot the sounds at the end of the song. There is something joyful that reminds me the classic PSB.

Adrenaline • Adrenaline
Is this excitement • or the fear of being chased? • Or just the speed of life • you hope you have embraced? • Running down the road • your heart bangs like a can • In the midst of trouble • comes a troubled man Adrenaline • Adrenaline
When what you've always wanted • lands out of the blue • Looks you in the eye • Suggests what you want too • The nerves, the stumbling words • The best you can employ • From the midst of trouble • comes a sudden joy Adrenaline • Adrenaline
And when you get there • you've left all your fear behind • Half past midnight and you find • you're on cloud nine
Adrenaline • Adrenaline
I’ve kept the booklet mispelled title : « Adrenlaine »

I will struggle to rank this album. At first i was rather disappointed with it. Fortunately some songs as awesome. But some question remains. Was it the right producer for the boys ? For the orchestral parts yes, it's just perfect.
But now with the demos, looks like they didn't plan to make it sounds like please at first. Now with 2 or 3 more songs, like some b sides on it, i would have love it more. It's globally too cold and maybe missing a feminine voice.
I think a part of miserere as the intro for the last song could have worked (even if the song in itself is a gem).

Re: Nonetheless Expanded Edition
Today, the triple LP of Nonetheless Expanded was indeed delivered at my door by amazon.fr for the price of €23 (that has since gone up!). Was a bit worried they would cancel it but they did notPinhead44 wrote: Tue 10 Sep 2024, 9:51 pm So I went onto the Amazon France site this evening and that does have the triple vinyl listed at €23 (£20 approx) ! I am fully expecting to get something to say this is a mistake and them cancel it, but I have ordered one anyway with an additional €3 postage.
https://www.amazon.fr/Nonetheless-Expan ... C83&sr=8-5
I combined the order with 3 New Order 12"es that I did not have yet, which were also "only" €15 each so very happy.
Now only waiting for the NLB/ATYD CD singles from the OS...

Late to the party on this, but, ‘kin hell: The dark end of the street is a blinder, isn’t it?, harks back to Always on my mind levels of making an old tune their own -an old soul classic given that synth n stringy amyl-NRG rush. It might give me a massive headache in a bit, but I can’t get enough of it right now. Why was this relegated to a bonus track when the thoroughly perfunctory …Dudes was given single status?

Re: Nonetheless - Expanded Edition
I think songs like Adrenaline are the type of easy song Neil and Chris could write all day. I think one could call it... slumming... in song writing terms.
these sort of electronic groove songs, where one of them comes up with a cool electronic pattern and then drop some lyrics and vocals on top of it.
songs like sense of time,Ring Road or in bits, is it a crime etc etc
I think they have to work far harder to bring about songs like You only tell me you love me when your drunk, or say Feel, I'm with stupid etc etc. I think thats why songs like Adrenaline sound so effortless when you first hear them start up. its a bit of a sugar rush but underneath its kind of fairly bland because they literally banged it out.

Ok, enough about Adrenaline.
I loved the first record by The last shadow puppets back in the day, specially The meeting place. It seems Neil loves that song too, as it was played on the BBC 6 residency two weeks ago.
It seems to me that with The secret of happiness, The dark end of the street or A new bohemia they were trying to achieve similar fifties/sixties string vibes.
I've always loved The meeting place, Tonight the streets are ours by Richard Hawley or The Universal by Blur, and these 3 songs from this campaign totally fit with these other 3 songs I've chosen as examples.
Heck, even Se telefonando by Italian icon Mina springs to mind (check this song and the incredibly modern lyrics for the time if you haven't!).
In the case of The secret of happiness, the exotica genius that was Les Baxter (check Boca chica for example) comes to mind since listening session #1. I can totally picture Neil on a steam boat down the Congo river chirply dancing and singing this musical delight to a new love as sun beams get through the foliage of the jungle and light his face (Chris watching from the shore, hiding behind some bushes while fishing with his rod).
So, maybe doubts about James Ford have arisen after listening to the demos, but they totally nailed it with many of the songs, the general vibe and Nonetheless is kind of retro but all is good. At least for me.
Good night!
